Great new Grant Morrison interview

Great read! It sounds like Morrison's vision of Batman is an extention of,in my opinion, the quesessential Batman of the 70's.The peak athlete, cunning, strategic Dark Knight Detective who is not only feared by the underworld but also the defender of the defenseless.

The "I hate everybody including everybody I'm partners with" Batman was getting old. This Batman seems smart enough to work with others when necessary.

"My goals are to make the Joker soul-destroyingly scary again, to get the reader further into Bruce Wayne's head than ever before and to create at least one good new Batman villain"

Sounds great  Especially the bit about the Joker.

Yeah, I'm really interested in reading his new take on Joker. I hope it is scary as he says it is... I love scary things.

Great read! My respect for Morrison doubled after reading that.

I was influenced by the animated series portrayal of Batman, by Christian Bale's definitive performance in Batman Begins and by Mike Barr's '80s Batman stories with Alan Davis, which swam bravely against the prevailing trends at a time when the grim 'n' gritty current was at its strongest. Rather than a basically unhinged individual who was driven mad , bad, and pointy-eared by the death of his parents, I saw Batman more and more as someone who had saved his own sanity by doing the one crazy thing that actually allowed him to turn his loss into something positive and proactive.

That's also very cool to read, Morrison has love for Begins.

That bit about Miller and Al-Qaeda is hilarious. And so is the Miller impersonation.

Great interview:up: Finally I'm getting the Batman I've been waiting for, plus a new villian:up:

GM: Well, I still intend to do 'Miller'-style first person narrative captions which give some insight into Batman's thought processes but it seems more 'realistic' to imagine Batman as a hardcore fightin' man who wouldn't even notice his injuries until long after the fight was over, so no more of that 'MY BACK SPLINTERS INTO A THOUSAND SHARDS OF AGONIZED BONE. HE'S GOOD. HE'S YOUNG. HE'S TOUGHER AND YOUNGER THAN ME. AND TOUGHER. DID I MENTION TOUGHER ? MUSN'T BLACK OUT...'

:D :D

Actually it's pathetic. He probably wishes he had a tenth of Miller's writing skills. And sounds like he's envious of Miller's work.

At least you're consistent.

Let it go man. Frank Miller is your god, that's fine. But lighten up.:)

LOL, aww. Still the brave soldier.

As a writer myself, I can usually tell when a writer is bashing another writer's work because he's envious. This is not one of those times.

:D :D

It's even funnier since the narraration in the latest issue actually sounded more like a Miller fight. :o

Well Morrison said he was gonna do that. :D

But the whole interview was practically him insulting Miller.

I think he meant that he'd use monologue to similar to what Miller does.

That's amusing :D but as cool as that is, i always thought it was cool to see Batman acknowledge the fact that he was injured, but still kept going, not letting the injury phase him. Both do for me.

cool interview. Although i didn't really like the remark he made about Miller's Holy Terror book. I didn't know it was a crime to write a comic book showing Batman facing real problems. If Captain America and Superman could do it, i believe Batman can as well. I also think that that book will be great, but that's me.

My favorite part is how morrison utterly owns miller two ways....by getting his cliche thought captions down perfectly...and pretty much exposing his al queda project for the failure it is.

but i love how morrison wants to make batman a...GASP...HERO. Not some loser who sits in his cave and yells at people. This batman is a guy who can be respected

Miller wishes he were HALF as inventive and versitile as morrison. All Miller can do is the same old pulp crime story. Morrison can pretty much do that and more...and better. Morrisons STILL considered one of the best writers today, where millers just a joke whos glory days passed him long ago.

However, i do look forward to his spirit movie

My respect for Morrison has doubled not because of his love for Begins but that he truely understands Batman and Bruce Wayne for who they are.

In Batman the Animated Series. In Batman Begins. Bruce Wayne was not the mask. But neither was Batman. Morrison gets it like Bruce Timm, Paul Dini, Chris Nolan, and David Goyer do. Batman and Bruce Wayne aren't the masks and they aren't the man either. The actual man, is somewhere inbetween.

Holy s**t. Morrison actually plans to stay on the Batman title for the long term (15+ issues) Geek and joy gasm!

Typical asinine assumption. You can't call it a failure considering it hasn't even been released yet, nor is it even finished.

When is the Al-Qaeda project supposed to be released?

...Did you not read Morrison's own monologue insulting Miller on his Holy Terror project?

I like your Sam Jackson quote, by the way.

Well, from what I've seen, if it isn't Sin City, it'll be a little late to release, so who knows?
