He might be an old fart but if I were a gangsta and he pulled that finger bang **** on me, I would crap my pants.

That is just to f'ing funny. As a matter of fact, I bet real-life street gangsta's cower in fear when Eastwood walks down the street.

"There is an old guy, let's rob him, then kill him"
"You must be f'ing crazy man, that's mother-friggin Clint Eastwood. You can try for yourself, but me, I'm f'ing outta here!""

Jackie Chan may be the greatest action star of all time, but he never plays a scary bad-ass. He's too likeable.

This is absolutely true, Jackie never plays the "tough" guy, he always plays cutesy cartoonish nice guys, which is one of the only things that gets on my nerves about him.
Bruce Lee on the other hand did kinda play that role, he liked walking into a room and putting on the "I'm a bad ass" persona.
Bruce should be on the list.
So should Chuck Norris.

It's between John Wayne, and Clint Eastwood for me. But I lean slightly towards the Duke on this one. Politics aside, I always kinda dug the quiet, reserved, "I'll smack you in the face and put you in your place" gentleman he often portrayed. And hell, the guy could shoot, ride a horse, command his troops, storm the ridge, and of course throw one hell of a great punch. Both on camera, and off camera as well (considering he apparently stood up to some Sinatra goon one night and knocked him to the floor ... which makes me like him even more).

Clint Eastwood comes in at a close second. He would have to be on anyone's list. I mean this is Dirty Harry we're talking about. And hey, not to mention he rode with Clyde.

Lee Marvin would probably be my third pick.

Shredder, great post, with some nice valid points on the Duke!

I forgot about Lee Marvin, he was really cool. And that reminds me of good ol' Ernest Borgnine! Another classic tough guy.
One of the greatest fights of all time was between the two of them in "Emperor of the North Pole"

anyone who doubts the Eastwood needs to go see gran torino now.
