The Green Hornet forums are gone but there was speculation on if this would get a sequel. For those interested some comments have arisen as Rogan was asked while out promoting his new comedy 50/50.

"Not any time in the foreseeable future. It's just not something we're interested in right now," ... "It's a lot more fun to make cheaper, much dirtier movies."

Those who followed the film may have recalled statements where Rogan, as a producer on the film, was frankly surprised at what went into an action movie of the sort Green Hornet was. How the bottom line cost stunned him. So his above statements make sense when put into perspective of what his type expectations for a movie are. In this case comedies that can be done for cheap(relative to action films) in Hollywood.

The other item of note in that piece is how the movie is described.
Despite the action comedy's box office success, Seth - who played the crime-fighting lead role - insisted a follow-up isn't currently on the cards.
It made $227m worldwide on a $120m budget but made only $97m in North America. Proof again, that while lackluster at home studios and industry reporters know to judge a film based on worldwide.

While the film was indeed mediocore at best, it had it's moments and did actually set things up for a possibly better sequel. IF Rogan could see fit to play it that way.

I found it underated, it wasn't a great film but it really was a lot of fun

Agreed Lord. I wish it was getting a sequel soon

Yeah, I'm cool with this news.
I didn't hate the movie or anything but by the time the credits rolled I wasn't exactly sitting in my seat going "Oh boy! I can't wait to see were they go with this in Green Hornet 2!"

.
And just how many countries are considered worldwide anyway, is $227 million enough to justify a sequel, what about DVD/BR sales? and besides action movies are easy translatable in foreign markets.

perhaps wait a decade or so and give it a legit try. Maybe don't make it a beer can comedy.

I actually liked GH a little bit. It was no where near as bad as I was hearing. In fact it wasn't bad at all.
Its a pitty that Seth is such a tight ass with money. Maybe they could cast someone else?

It was a parody, a funny one at that. But as a parody this wouldn't bear having a sequel.

Actually this would work better as a tv seires on cable:o

i could see that. I would bet it would be a lot easier and more afordable to translate to TV than a lot of characters.

Yep actually you got me thinking I might put together a package for a tv show!

It's not a bad movie...it's just extremely average, predictable, middle-of-the-road.

It's basically a huge wasted opportunity...Kevin Smith should have made Green Hornet. His ideas were sooooo much better.

I thought Green Hornet was a pretty good popcorn flick. I'm not dying to see a sequel , but I'd see it anyway.

Yeah, Ican see his point, even though I would see it.

Agreed, I think Kevin Smith could of done some cool things with it. Not that I didn't like it, I really liked the humour of it.

Does anyone know what actually happened with the Kevin Smith situation? Was it simply that he opted to do another project instead?

There was a quote where, talking about the possibility opf duirecting Green Hornet, he admitted he wasn't the man to direct a big budget movie like that one.

It's never been announced why he dropped out I don't think. He approached Jake Gyllenhaal to star in 2004 and dropped out of that and Fletch shortly after. He always says he isn't good enough for big budget movies though. His story was adapted as a comic if you wanted to see what he would have done, it starred Britt's son and Kato's daughter.

Ah very cool I didn't know his story is in comic form, I will definatley check that out!

I suppose that was the best decision, if he wasn't confident he could pull it off, rather than taking the paycheck and just making a bad film of it.
