Green Lantern 2

I know we all are looking for potential stars in each role... But I feel Smith is a mismatch of epic proportions! He's probably a bigger name than Superman and Batman! That can't be good for the movie!

I dont see why that makes a difference

Oh I know what u mean. Would never work out. He would be the oldest actor of the team, the highest paid. I don't think WB can afford Bale, Nolan and Smith along with the others and the budget of the film. That's ridiculous, even though it would be pretty damn awesome IMO.

Yeah, SlamAdams, that's why.:csad:

i don't see why that would be a problem. i think sam jackson is the bigger name then most of those guys in that avengers film. at the very least, we'd know a gl2 wouldn't bomb at the box office.

there needs to be a story as to why you have John and not Hal as the GL in the GL2/JL movie. you cant just throw him in and think it will work. you can recast the role (like the hulk) but you can't just have a whole new guy in the role without some information as to who he is and where the last guy went. there needs to be a GL movie that moves the story of Hal out and John in. if you do a sequel to the fist movie Hal has to be the main GL, the first movie ended with him a hero. you can't just dump him and bring in a new guy for the role. and if you do a new movie forgetting the last movie you will just confuse the audience as to what happened to the last guy. either way you need to bring back Hal and then introduce John.

Now that I've watched this movie twice...i think the property is doomed in films. It can't work. you'd need an incredible budget to pull it off and it's just too risky. everything just looked too fake.

I suppose there was a small chance it could work. you'd need a lot more story though...something like thor. you'd need more good characters. this had only like 6 or 7 characters.

That whole Hector Hammond thing should have been written out completely.

I know some people enjoyed the character but I hated it. I love camp/big loud cartoony villian portrayals so Hammon should have been right up my alley but I hated it. Hated the cartoonish pre-mind powers look of the character and I hated his supervillian design. Hated how they shoehorned in him being friends with Hal and Carol. I mean there was no build up to that plot point or Hammon being in love with Carol. They wasted a very solid actor. The other villian was a yellow cloud so...yeah the villians stunk.

I know it sounds like it but I didn't hate the film, Reynolds was likable and charasmatic, Lively was okay, the pacing isn't awful (the movie is choppy as **** though) and Mark Strong was fine but the role wasn't large enough for him to make much of an impression. It's an extremely derivitive, semi watchable cheese fest that I should hate but don't.

The sad thing is it could have been a really solid film with a much better script, a director who had a good handle on the material and a consistant tone is a must. I mostly understand why the general audience hated it, even if I didn't.

If WB reboots it in 10-15 years they know what not to do now.

Yeah, look at Thor...that should have been extremely bad and campy but it wasn't because they had great casting and a decent story to work with. Green Lantern was paper lantern thin in terms of story. Thor had multiple Oscar caliber actors...starting with Hiddleston as Loki. Natalie Portman vs Blake Lively?!?!?! That's like the Hulk vs Marvin the Martian.

Thor:
Sir. Anthony Hopkins
Tom Hiddleston
Natalie Portman
Stellan Skarsgård
Colm Feore
Ray Stevenson
Rene Russo

vs

GL:
Peter Sarsgaard
Mark Strong
Tim Robbins
Angela Bassett in small role

it just didn't feel like a big universe when the central focus was on earth. he has an entire sector to patrol. also the corps is more fun to follow than just one lantern. maybe they should have partnered him up with someone to teach him on the job training. also patrol the sector. like first flight did. he was taught on the job by sinestro. this was not in first flight, but then we should see korugar and how sinestro keeps order. then sinestro is outed as a tyrant.

Well Rev... You'd be glad to know I've softened my stance on Will Smith recently. I still have reservations, but I think they can work past them now.

I love Elba as Stewart, I mean...look at my signature. But is he still tied to Marvel?

Check this out...

But the bald John stewart is much better:

And that suits Idris Elba:

Will Smith couldnt pull it off. Hella no.

Sorry but I'm not much of a Thor fan either. Thor had a better cast and was a slightly better film because of that but I thought the script, direction and love story were lousy. And Portman's performance wasn't much better than Lively's IMHO. She seems like a sweet chick but I'm not much of a fan. Hopefully the next film is much better to me.

Back on to Lantern: I haven't seen Smith say anything about wanting to play Stewart so why do people keep bringing him up positively or negatively? Like Cruise, Smith is an A-lister he doesn't need to play a comicbook Superhero and I doubt he wants Ryan Reynold's seconds.

Even Smith's box office disappointments make money. Smith doesn't do screentests at the point in his career and some of you guys are acting like he does because you aren't fans of his. It's not a matter of someone "choosing" him to play roles, he developes most of his own projects.

No A-lister would touch GL with a ten foot pole after the last disliked massive bomb in 2011.

^yeah i agree i wouldn't be praising portman performance in thor i think i liked blake in gl more

Natalie in thor is the essence of phoning it in

And I still think she did a lot better than Blake in GL. Even if she phoned it in, at least Natalie seemed to have a natural, fun time. Blake was just bad.

Portman by herself wasn't much better than Lively by herself, but her scenes with Hemsworth were more lively (hello pun) than Lively's with Hal.

Atleast Lively got to do more than swoon like a 12 year girl at a Justin Bieber concert. They did the swept up weak kneed for the hero thing much better in 1978's Superman: The Movie.

Portman wasn't give much to work with and didn't even try. She shamelessly rested on her cute smile. Also I felt that Lively and Reynolds had more chemistry than Portman and Hemsworth. I know I'm in the minorty on those things but those are my feelings, I don't see why I should hide my distain for that love story now.

Both "love stories" were pretty poor, imo. I didn't see any chemistry between either of the two sets of leads, and the writing on both was as thin as could be.

Didn't bother me quite as much in Thor since those people just met, and it was treated as a romantic flirtation that could some day become something more, but for right now, they were just presented as two people who were attracted to each other who each represented the impetus for extraordinary, life-altering events for the other. I could somewhat buy them as that, though as I said, the chemistry didn't really sell the attraction for me. But Lively and Reynolds were supposed to have known each other their entire lives and have actual romantic history, and that I could not buy at all.

green lantern needs to find its "Christopher Nolan" to get off the ground.
