Gremlins for Christmas & 25th Anniversary Rumors!
December 19, 2008

Heyas all!

First off, for those of you who follow the time honored Gremlins Online tradition of watching Gremlins every year right around christmas time, but haven’t broken down and purchased your very own Gremlins Special Edition DVD, Gremlins is airing on AMC pretty regularly through the holidays. Surprisingly, it is the unedited version with the complete microwave, blender and fireplace sequences!

If you have cable, be sure to check it out at the following upcoming showtimes:

Sun Dec 28 @ 6:30AM | 5:30C
Mon Dec 29 @ 1AM | 12C
Mon Dec 29 @ 7:30AM | 6:30C

I have also gotten word that there is supposed to be a new dvd release of Gremlins with some all-new special features in 2009. This would coincide with the 25th anniversary of the original film, so hopefully Warner Bros will go all out for this one and give us a version that has the deleted scenes included in the flow of the film! More updates as I discover more!

this film is 25 years bloody hell:wow: hopefully the rumours are true the current dvd is great but i'd love to see a huge 2 disc copy

No Time for Sergeants is the movie that needs a DVD. It's 50 years old and still no DVD.

I plan to be around to see its 50th anniversary.

where is gremlins 3? i'm still waiting.

Cool. This is one of those movies I've never gotten on DVD. I hope the anniversary edition has a lot of good features.

Watched this last night, and it really doesnt surprise me that its 25 years old!!! Really doesnt stand up at all- not just the effects, but the naivety of the whole thing in general.
A remake is the way to go over a Gremlins 3.

you think that gremlins fx's don't still stand up. let me guess you would perfer it to be nothing but cgi

The scene at the end with Stripe melting will always haunt me.

I just got done watching the dvd with both commentary's and its cool that a new special edition is coming out.

But I still can't help but wonder how the movie would have turned out of they used the original script? It prolly wouldn't be such a classic if they had done that.

If they ever made a gremlins 3 or even remake.:csad: It should be done with puppets.

But Joe (Dante) the director even said if it was made today, they'd use greenscreen alot for most of the things and whatnot. The commentary is very helpful on the making of gremlins.

haha that's pretty good. Up until now I've never picked up either of the Gremlins dvds but i might get this new one, it's the same with Roger Rabbit, love the film but I've never been bothered to pick up the dvd due to a lack of features.

But I liked the first Gremlins and enjoyed the 2nd one a lot too.. A gremlins 3 would definately rock, maybe finding a middle ground between 1 and 2, I dunno but they should definately stick with puppets, maybe a little cgi enhancement for crowd scenes but puppets all the way!

They should only use CGI maybe in cases when they need massive amounts of Gremlins. IE like scenes when you see them coming up the road, after they've come out the poor. Or the movie theater scene.

I only picked up the dvd this past summer for 9 bucks at walmart. I still need part 2 yet.

I heard a rumour last year, that a gremlins 3 was in the talks, but it was gonna be straight to dvd.

I haven't heard much of that since then.

And the times they have it playing on AMC are weird. Either late at night or earlier in the morning.

I don't care what process is used - whatever works best.

The problem with the dated fx in gremlins is that they aren't "quaint" like a 50's film or overly reminscent of an era. They just look imperfect and wrench you out of the film at times. I forgot how bad they are by todays standards because my memory of gremlins is sort of fused with Gremlins 2.

The effects in Ghostbusters aren't much better but something about them just works.

Anyway its not the effects that soured my fond memory of the film- more the simplicity of the story and the jokes that fall flat.

Gremlins 2 with its pastiche was a much better film ihmo. I'd like to see a Gremlins 3 or remake on that sort of level.

Hhhmm... I think Gremlins and its effects still work today.

Ugh, how is Gremlins 25 years old already? I saw it in the movie theater when it first came out. :wow:

(still love that movie)

I absolutely LOVE The Gremlins. One of my favorite films as a kid and I still love them to this very day. My mom bought me the Gremlins 2 nintendo game when they were at the height of their popular.

But the film is 25 years old? Damn, I'm two years older than the film. :wow:

But it brings back memories of my childhood and whenever I watch it I feel like a kid again.

So for Gremlins fans, were you suppose to cheer for the Gremlins when Mrs. Deagle was thrown out of the window? Out of all the deaths in that film, Mrs. Deagles still stands out to me and I think it's because everyone was happy to see her knocked off.

Deagle was a total *****. And I applauded her death.

I seem to remember the audience cheering a bit when she went through the window. I also recall that those motorized chairs were being advertised a lot on TV at the time so it made that scene a little funnier. :oldrazz:

If anyone remembers this and temple of doom were resonsible for the PG-13 rating being made.

And only reason it didn't get a r rating is cause they didn't think it was bad enough for a r rating and it also had spielburg as a producer. So i'm guessing he had something to do with it also and the PG-13 rating. Seeing as both of those movies were either directed or produced by him.

I've read the only reason that and Temple of Doom didn't get an R-rating was because Spielberg was the executive producer/director on both films.

I remember there was a huge deal made out of the gremlin getting blown up in the microwave. That, and the guy getting his heart ripped out in Indiana Jones.
