Anyone here who likes to see a live action GUNDAM movie?

Although they are in the same genre as the Transformers, I personally think it will work, because it explores the strengths and weaknessess of humankind, and most of all, man's moral obligation to obtain true peace and unification as it enters outer space.

it's just in my opinion...

Wasnt their talks of some gundam live action film happening?

only animated....it was slated for 2010, i think it's gundam 00, a live action film would be great!

Would be kind of difficult to market. Aren't most pilots like late teens early 20s?

If I would suggest any version, it would be 08th MS team.

They should do a One Year War trilogy, and find ways to include parts or hints from all the OYW era stories (08thMS, 0080, etc.) into the main MSG timeline. Then, at the end of the 3rd in the trilogy, after the war is over, talk about how the next few years were spent sweeping up any zeon remnants and have a few 0083 scenes. That way, that whole section of the timeline is out of the way and they can jump right into Zeta if they choose to.

I think past Z Gundam though (and maybe ZZ...possibly Char's Counter Attack...) it would be better to start crafting new stories for live action films as opposed to simply translating every anime onto the screen. The new stories should in no way overlap the existing anime timeline, but exist in parallel, as events yet unexplored during the Gundam history. It gives the films an opprotunity to still be new and exciting to everyone and add in a positive way to the stories, without having everyone necessarily already know where it's going because the saw the anime version. I would do the whole Z, ZZ, CCA section of the timeline as a one movie each trilogy, and even then, I'd throw some different angles and perspectives into it just to change it up. Past that, once you get into the F91/V era, I would make up all new stories. Maybe draw from the manga, like crossbone or something, but it shopuld definitely be new or something that hasn't been animated. I'm just not really a fan of translating every Gundam anime to live action directly. The OYW is the only story I could see it being done that way. It has to, because it sets off the entire Gundam Saga.

As far as Transformers, the comparisons should stop at both films having robots that are bigger than humans. Gundam should be an intelligent science fiction action film. A tone similar to the newest Star Trek film. The mobile suits are simply weapons of war, and while the visuals may be unique and eye catching, they should no more take center stage than a nifty tank in a WW2 film. It is first and foremost a human drama. Of course the fight scenes should be appropriately mind blowing...

I actually have written a few Gundam stories and started on a Mobile Suit Gundam OYW script not too long ago. It's been somewhat of a dream of mine to be the one to adapt the Saga as a film.

I'd really rather not have live action movies based on anime. I just don't think that, for the most part, the art style and character designs translate well to live action. I'll be annoyed if this Cowboy Bebop movie ends up getting made.

If you watch the Transformers films, then you've seen a live-action anime. Hasbro may be American, but Transformers is about as Super Robot as any American animation can get (save maybe that "Sym-Bionic Titan" Genndy Tartakofsky is working on).

On-topic: It depends. Are we talkin' about awesome characters like Heero Yuy in a War in the Pocket or 08th MS Team scenario? Or are we talking about some forced trilogy starring someone like Amuro Ray, who whines for half the time about how he "didn't sign up for this"? 'Cause if it's the latter, well then no thanks, bro.

How Lupin the Third hasn't been adapted is beyond me. It so beyond easy.

watching the Mech suits in District 9 made me want a Gundam movie more.

That's what I was saying earlier, how could the films based on the other series work unless the universe is established.

I think it would be too hard to make continuous one-shots. People who like Seed aren't guaranteed to like G-Gundam, and people who liked Wing might not like the original MSG. The best approach would be to look at all the recurring elements and make a whole new cloth of stories in the franchise. Just making Universal Century or After War universe movies would get real boring real fast.

I think if you streamline the plot of Gundam Wing, make them a little older and tell the story over the course of say...3 years, as opposed to 1, it'd make a great trilogy. The beginning and end is very cinematic of the series. And the Heero Relena story, especially if in the second one he reluctantly is protecting her as a princess in her homeland after meeting her in the first and trying to kill her...that love story would make it a major hit. Make Duo a badass, give Quatra and Trowa there due (screw Wufei) and you have two great villains with Treize and Zechs. Noin would be a great character. Also Lady Une going from pure evil ***** to the first film to sympathetic psycho in the second third? Another great character arc right there.

Sell as Lord of the Rings meets Star Wars meets the iconography of the bad Transformer movies?

Could be quite the epic.

Wow! You guys got great ideas about a GUNDAM movie....personally I think your opinions hit the spot, like the love story between heero and relena(much like MJ and Peter, but more perplexing). Yes, the Gundam movie should be about the human struggle and not about the mobile suits. I'd like to see the Gundam X arc be made into a live action movie too, but I completely agree that a gundam movie should be entirely fresh and new, not a strip from the anime.:yay:

I want a Gundam movie! Plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.....................

Movie producers will benefit from it, it is assured a box office matterial. Fans are gonna go crazy!

Robdixxo, given that A - getting the material for a spaceship into space is actually a logistical nightmare, B - spaceships don't travel in the atmosphere, and so generally aren't designed to be aerodynamic (not to mention they'd never actually fly), and C - mass forms a part of any attempt to accelerate (force too), which basically means that a larger force is required to move a more massive object, I must conclude that you are talking s**t and ought to shut up.

Personally, I think Gundam Wing ought to be told in two trilogies (it means they don't overly compromise the story). They'd need to be filmed all at the same time, of course (as LOTR was, I might add), and certainly, you'd need something to actually prove a market (an original movie set before the series, maybe about the rise of Zechs and Treize in Oz).

My boyfriend and I would love a live-action Gundam movie, and we've actually cast almost every significant Gundam character from all the different series.

The crappy Canadian Gundam movie was hillarious. I love the fact that the main character cheated on his girlfriend and it instantly turned her into a mustache twirling villain. There was some pretty hardcore mysogyny going on in those writers meetings, I'm sure! :lmao:

I wouldn't mind a a live action Gundam movie, but...just to be safe. Let's keep it all animated, or at least CGI.

I like to see a live action Gundams movie directed by Robert Rodriguez.
