Gunman takes hostages at Discovery Channel, Maryland

Either they took down the site or it's crashing from too many visitors.

Is the Discovery Channel really the best place to target in order to 'save the planet'?

Also, the demand site doesn't work for me either. What kind of information is on it?

BREAKING NEWS
SILVER SPRING, Md. — A gunman with an explosive device strapped to himself entered the Discovery Communications building in Silver Spring, Md., Wednesday afternoon and may have taken at least one person hostage, police said.

Montgomery County police Capt. Paul Starks said there may be other explosives in the building.

People on the eighth and ninth floors of the building in the close-in suburb of Washington were safely evacuated, as were children in the Discovery Kids Place day care center, police said, adding that nobody was known to have been injured .

Law enforcement authorities said they were talking to the man, whom they identified as James Jay Lee, who is in his early 40s, a longtime protester at the building who sentenced to six months of supervised probation for disorderly conduct in March 2008.

“The good thing is we have the outside of the building secure, we’re talking with him, and he wants to talk with us,” Starks said.

‘The planet does not need humans’
Lee appears to have posted environmental and population-control demands online, saying humans are ruining the planet and that Discovery should develop programs to sound the alarm.

“I want Discovery Communications to broadcast on their channels to the world their new program lineup and I want proof they are doing so. I want the new shows started by asking the public for inventive solution ideas to save the planet and the remaining wildlife on it,” the alleged manifesto reads, adding:"Nothing is more important than saving ... the Lions, Tigers, Giraffes, Elephants, Froggies, Turtles, Apes, Raccoons, Beetles, Ants, Sharks, Bears, and, of course, the Squirrels. The humans? The planet does not need humans.”

THIS MOFO IS NUTS

damn, i just tried going to it so i could copy and past it for you all, but it stopped working for me, too.

it pretty much said that he wants Discovery Channel to lead the way in killing off the human race by ceasing all human reproduction of "parasite infants", by creating documentaries and game shows (yes, game shows) about how useless and horrible the human race and disgusting infants are(he has a real hatred for babies). He was also calling for the Discovery Channel to end all wars, not to save human lives, but to save animals.

How the hell do we not know that the hostages are not already dead? Seriously, this guy seems like he wouldn't value holding hostages.

I cannot express the extreme bafflement at how warped and flat out wrong his ideas are.

I have two friends who work there (one just started), and no one i know has been able to get a hold of them, so i really hope that is not the case.

I hope it's not the case either, but this guy seems to not value human life at all. :(

That's assuming that his beliefs are consistent, which they probably aren't. If he was really consistent in his belief of how horrible humans and infants are, he'd have blown up a maternity ward or something.

Man, it's so surreal. If I hadn't read this on an actual news site, I might've thought it was some kind of insane publicity stunt.

Damn that's messed...anyone grab some of the text off his site before it went online? I'd like to see what the hell has been going through his mind.

Yeah, that's the basic jist.

I'm just hoping he's full of alot of ******** and everyone's fine.
