Half Life 2 is amazing, AND fantastic

Yes it is. Well Half Life 2 proper was a bit too long winded but the genius of it remained all the same. Episode 1 is amazing, easily the best FPS made to this point.

I liked Episode 1 much better than I liked Half Life 2. The first is still a great game, but that driving sequence with the ant lions is just really terrible, it really drags the whole game down for me. Episode 1 was all the best things about Half Life 2, compressed into a smaller timeframe so that it was just nonstop, no real "slow" periods like you had in the original between certain chapters. I hope Episode 2 is just as good.

I can't wait to finally play that orange box on the 360.
I never finished HL1, so I don't know what the hell's gonna happen.

At the end of Half Life 1, the GMan offered you a chance to live, or a chance to die, and Half Life 2 assumed you went with the GMan's "live" option. That's really all you need to know.

Half-Life: Brilliant.
Half-Life: Opposing Force: Better than brilliant.
Half-Life: Blue Shift: Ass.
Half-Life 2: Need for Speed ass.
Half-Life: Episode 1: I can't really comment on this because I can't bring myself to even load it anymore when Deus Ex: Game of the Year Edition is so sexually sitting right above it.

Half-Life 2 ruined Half-Life for me. Gone were the brilliant moments of Half-Life and Op4, and instead we are treated to drawn-out monologues that keep you from progressing, extensive vehicle segments of which I would rather walk barefoot through liquid **** than play, a "trap" level so lame I almost couldn't believe I was playing a Half-Life game and not a tutorial to Duke Nukem 64, and last but not least: the worst characters ever in a videogame. Alyx just sucks. Walter was cooler in Half-Life 1, as was Barney, and the rest really could screw-off and die for all I cared. For the resistance, or at least people you were trying to save, you'd expect them to be a little more compelling or at least no-nonsense, but instead we get *****ebags who all have the same voice doing exactly jack all to look like they cared about their own survival. And I'm not just talking about AI. Every scripted sequence is "thank God Dr. Freeman showed up because my backup plan was to stick my thumb in my ass and whistle dixie until I died like a dog". I mean really, what the hell was with that. And the Vortigaunts suddenly becoming Allies? When the hell did THAT happen?

I could go on, but I think I've proven where Half-Life 2 sucks already.

Wait wait, so an add on that Valve didn't make (Blue Shift) sucked, and you didn't like Half life 2. Yet 2 out of 3 of their products were 'brilliant' or 'beyond brilliant'. Sorry but Half Life 2 is still one of the best overall FPS games on the market, the only think that hurts it is the length, and even so your vapid complaints about Alyx is insane.

She's one of the best supporting characters ever in a video game, the way she emotes, her mannerisms all make her seem to alive. You can empathize with her, tell when she's distressed and emotionally connect to that. You don't really get that as much until Episode 1, but honestly Half Life 2 Episode 1 is much better then Half Life 2. You were complaining about Vehicles and length right? Episode One is one big roller coaster ride of awesome, take every awesome moment from Half Life and Half Life 2 and it's like that non stop one after the other.

Part of the point of Half Life 2 is that humanity is getting its ass kicked, I'm sorry one of the things that ties together the central theme is eluded you. It wasn't like they were doing nothing, it's just you can only do so much when you're vastly outnumbered and outgunned, and the if you were paying attention, Gordon Freeman was a part of the Resistance plan from the very beginning. It's heavily inferred that they bought the services of Gordon Freeman from the Gman.

Valve didn't make Opposing Force either, but I still liked that, and way more than I liked Half-Life 2. And by the way, this isn't about me not liking Valve, this is about me not liking Half-Life 2.

Canal-runs and boring vehicle segments < Riddick, Farcry, Halo, Half-Life 1, Op4, etc. There are many better shooters than Half-Life 2.

Oh sure, play the "you haven't played Episode 1" card.

It hasn't eluded me at all. It's pretty obvious that humanity can't take on the combine, it just makes extremely little sense that the ONLY people who seem able to do anything are Alyx, Barney and you. You have the H.E.V., which almost makes you special, but Alyx and Barney don't, which means the rest of humanity is just too stupid to survive. No wonder Dr. Breen is on their side. Let the combine win.

Well it's true, you haven't played Episode One.

Okay, I've started playing through Episode 1 again. I'm at the part where you fight the giant lobster. He's really hard, but I'm liking it more than Half-Life 2 so far.

I'll have to complete it and sleep a few nights on whether it sucks or not, but so far it's definitely a better game. No worthless conversations, no vehicle sections, the cool "get to the surface" theme and the crazy "how-the-hell-does-this-work environment of the combine tower. The reactor thing was awesome. Design feels much closer to the original Half-Life.

The only time I liked Alyx was when she wasn't around

I'm sorry you dislike what is considered one of the best non playable video game characters in modern video game history.

I've yet to meet an NPC that isn't annoying
NPCs will always suck. Whether it's Alyx acting like an idiot as you die, or Dom getting in fist-fights with General Raam at the end of Gears of War, NPCs have always, and will always, not be doing what they'd be best off doing.

The same goes for the people in the squads. I've lost count as to how many times I've seen an AI controlled squad member take cover in front of a fence directly in the line of fire, when the pointer was behind the fence

I do dislike the squad AI, they always seem to want to crowd in front of a door just as I'm trying to leave. Don't really have any complaints other than that though.

Yeah thats pretty much my only complaint about the game. I remember constantly having to restart levels because Dom kept getting torn apart by the ****ing Kryll.

HL2 is a great game. Sometimes, after playing for awhile, I noticed that it would make me feel nauseous. Largely because of this, I quit playing and uninstalled it from my laptop about six months ago.
