Halo Movie too pricey for Studio!

Yeah, they're going to have actually go all out with merchandising and what not if they do wish to make a profit, which would mean making it PG-13, having toys, advertisements, etc. It just would. While the game is mature, a LOT of players are younger than the age group it's specified for, and if they can access them, they've got it made.

^ Exactly. Sure an R rated film might turn out to be a better film but it's built in audience has a large % of kids under 18.

I'm glad to hear this news because I think that giving 130+million to a director who has never done a feature would have been a huge mistake. I believe the movie wouldn't have been any good. I hope PJ decides to direct.

farewell halo

Bad news for the fanatics of Halo. It has been reported that Universal and Microsoft have pulled the plug on the upcoming adaption of Halo. The reason being is their concern of the rising cost of production which is rumored to be around $200 million, and the inexperience of first time director Neil Blomkamp. I thought the game was generic and boring...but I can't wait for the movie!! HOPE IT HAPPENS

Halo 2 sucked hard. Halo 1 was ground breaking as far as visuals but both games have lacked depth and were repetive, lousy enemy character visuals, etc...and horrible weapons.

I recall how many studios turned down as they said a no body to expensive film called Lord Of The Rings. New Line at the time was the only one to take it on. Fox and Universal at to affraid that peter might want to spend money to make it a good movie with some substence to it. Pete is use to this. I say he should do a Lucas and open his own studio to makemovies he wants to.

I hated the bad guys...everytime you killed one of the basic soldiers in the first game they sounded like you were killing Disney characters....
that weird little squeel sound.

Best idea yet! He really should.

I'm still wanting him to make a Sci-Fi film....

I'd love to see peter jackson do a Star Trek film or an old classic sci fi movie. Like Dracula, The Wolfman, Sinbad or even Clash Of The Titans.

Clash of the Titans
and
The Day The Earth Stood Still

I think these are two movies he could remake that would be even greater than the originals in EVERY way.

Here is some more on the topic.

http://movies.ign.com/articles/741/741146p1.html

I have to say, I think this is a STUNNINGLY bad movie on the part of Universal and Fox. They wait until the last minute to do this and then they pull out on a potentially huge franchise. Fox especially has had some insane logic the last few years. With Peter Jackson and the Bungee, the gamemakers themselves, overseeing the project I think this movie has some definate potential.

It does have potential but an R rated movie based on a popular video game supported by a large % of people too young to see an R rated film is...uh risky. Lower it to a Pg-13 rating and use more practical effects and get the budget down a bit and get more creative with the story.

All they would need is a studio to distribute it since they're taking the brunt of the cost.

MS was asking for a fairly large cut considering they're a liscensor when compared to other films. It's easy to blame it all on the studios if you were looking forward to the movie, but MS seems confident they can get the money they want elsewhere.

Really though, it's surprising to see MS not budging at all on the issue. Remember, this is the same company that was willing to loose 3 billion dollars just to get their foot in the videogame industry door.

Is Peter Jackson doing this?
If not I bet it will be lame.

It kinda needs to be R-rated though.

I mean, it's a MATURE game. That'd be like bumping a Grand Theft Auto movie down to PG-13.......I think you lose some of the edge that makes the franchise what it is.
Halo is barely a Mature though. It could have been a Teen with a little less blood.

But I don't care if they make a Halo movie or not. I never thought the stories in the games were exceptionally good for video game stories.

According to Harry at AICN the project is moving forward and many studios are interested, he says he´s actually glad Fox aka Satan´s crapper has bailed out, and at least in this case, I agree.
