I don't know if anyone cares, but this is a movie that is long overdue for coming to DVD. This, in my opinion, is the definitive Shakespeare movie. It's the best play, translated onto the screen in the best way.

It's star-studded. It's 4 hours long. It's the only film-adaption of a Shakespearean play that actually has the FULL text (nothing is cut out), and there has been an online-rampage of millions of people demanding that this film be brought to DVD.... and it's finally coming. I kid you not, people have been waiting for this movie for years upon years.. probably since DVD itself was introduced ten years ago.

Billy Crystal
Robin Williams
Kate Winslet
Jack Lemmon
Charlton Heston
Judi Dench
Richard Attenborough
Rufus Sewell
Julie Christie
Rosemary Harris
Kenneth Branagh

... just to name a few.

This pretty much made my day. I'm not gonna lie.

For those of you who hate Shakespeare, or if you love him, and you've never seen this film... I suggest you see it, because it's definitely worth it. Even for non-fans, I'm sure there's something in here that you'll love. It's terrific filmmaking.

I also think this version kicks Mel Gibson's version right in the ass. As a long-time Shakespeare-buff, I seriously feel this version is far superior to Gibson, and I would even argue that it's probably better than Laurence Oliver's, too (for several reasons, which are too boring to get into).

Its about damn time. I've been waiting for this to come out on DVD forever.

I know!! It made me so mad. It's the only one in my collection that had to be VHS... it's so out of place.

Yes, awesome!

My favorite version of Hamlet finally hits DVD, after all this time of waiting! Can't wait to get a copy.

:yay:

Gibson's version...

Okay, so I'm an actor and I won't get into it.

But Gibson's version is childish and incoherently insane. Branagh plays Hamlet with the right amount of brooding and the right amount of insanity, balanced with the right amount of wit and sarcasm as well as deviousness.

Hamlet is the ultimately character for any actor to take on. Do not do it unless you are 25 or older or else you just won't get to even be able to understand the character. Unless you had a ****ed up life in high-school so badly, but then you probably wouldn't be an actor but just a sad-sack stoner and drinker who is proud of their stupid ways.

I am really happy to hear Branagh's Hamlet is coming to DVD, I've seen it a few times and will definitely buy it.

Perhaps, but he was more believable in the role. There's something about Gibson's personality that lends well to the character of Hamlet.

The only version I've seen and did like was the Gibson movie, however, if all of you guys hold this movie to such praise I guess I'll have to see it for myself.
