Original Unaltered Star Wars Trilogy on DVD: 9/12 to 12/31

Damn, I didn't know about this and I just bought the Special Edition Trilogy last week :(

I'll pass. I am not some uber nerd who needs to see Han shoot first. I'll stick with my SE DVD's.

I was pretty pissed off when I heard about the bad quality and lack of an anamorphic transfer. In some ways, I still am, but I've cooled off. I've always thought the SEs were superior to the theatrical versions, and I've already got them in high quality.

Since I'm getting the originals more as a keepsake, it's not too big a deal.

Why couldn't he just have them in widescreen, with 5.1,but just not mess with the film itself? Is that toomuch to friggin' ask for?!?!

Yes...You wanted the originals right? The originals were presented in stereo sound. 5.1 wasn't even an apple in someone's eye in 1977

You can now all stop complaining about Greedo. Hope that makes you happy.
I can still still complain that the change was made in the first place, and you can either listen or not...In fact...why don't you stop *****ing that not everyone likes things the way you like them. For the love of God, move on back to tf.net and leave us alone

Has anyone noticed yet that Han shoots first in almost every gunfight in the first movie, even in the special edition? Just re-watch the Death Star part of the movie again, and you'll notice that Han shooting first was actually a recurring theme.

Which makes it even stupider that George Lucas changed the Greedo shootout. I mean come on, what's the difference between shooting an Alien first and shooting a Stormtrooper first that Lucas felt compelled to change it? It's so stupid.

Greedo shooting first is stupid for tons of reason. It makes Greedo look like a dumbass hack. He's one of the top bounty hunters in the galaxy. Yet he misses when Han is sitting 2 feet from his blaster? Also, Han doesn't even move. He's so confident that Greedo is going to miss him 2 feet away. I don't know about anyone else, but I was never confunsed by who shot first. It was apparent Han would shoot him when he took out his blaster and then Greedo's head fell life-less to the table.

Well, back in '77 the movie was played in some theatres in 70mm Six-Track Dolby Stereo which was the percurssor to modern 5.1, so they could put it on the DVD if they wanted to.

So these are not in original widescreen format?

They are not anamorphic. They are just ***** compared to what we should be getting.

All I want is the originals, but with some restoration. Clean the film, fix the ugly boxes around the ships, fix the lightsaber colors, but leave the pointless CGI crap out of it.

^Then it wouldn't be the originals if it had that stuff.

Change one thing and it's a special edition. The originals should be just that-the exact originals, with every flaw and with every charm. They should be a historical document.

I like the updated versions better, but I definately don't want to see the originals altered in any way. I want every matte line and every glob of vasaline under Luke's landspeeder. And either version of the movie is great to me.

The only way I can enjoy the prequels

And I'm looking forward to the sequel :D

My dad just bought a DVD/VHS player that you can transfer VHS to DVDs. Thankfully I saved my 95 OT tapes.

You know what?

Screw Lucas.

We don't need him.

For those of you too lazy to click, the links are to a site called original trilogy.com. People there have done something remarkable. They've made dvd quality versions of the original trilogy... in its original state.

What they've done is take the footage from the star wars dvd, and painted over any special edition elements with footage from the lesser quality laser disk editions.

Example:

The middle of this shot is from 2004, the edges around the Falcon from 1980.

Check out the links for more amazingness!

EDIT: Just to clarify. Those are not download links. I'm not posting links to illegal material, don't worry mods. But these things are out there.

I swear to god! George Lucas could ***** gold. Hand it out to all the Star Wars fans as gratitude, & all you b**chs would do is piss & moan about how he didn't clean each gold piece before handing them out.
