Handling The Visual Effects

That's kinda pointless if they went down that route. Like what DorkyFetish said before, it could be confusion over the pre-vis work.

Anyway, Green Lantern got so much flak from its CGI costume that I doubt WB would want to go down that route. While it's not fair to judge the Green Lantern CGI suits (until we see the next trailer, that is), I do think it's almost a waste of time and money when they could have just made real suits with CGI enhancements.

Yeah. And wouldn't it be cheaper if they just had Cavill wear the suit, and use wires and harnesses for some of the simpler shots? All the director has to do is get the wires painted out, and voila, cheaper and more convincing shots. The previous Spider-Man films (as well as BB) did that, and it looked so much better.

To quote Ian Malcolm in Jurassic Park: "Just because you can, doesn't mean that you should.." And this could be applied to the CGI Superman rumor.

Nice....sig worthy even.

Maybe Snyder had to much fun working with this:

dear Mr. Snyder,

please incorporate a shot like this please...

...thank you!

I love this... Always have. My flying dreams are like this... All the detail and vividness... Beautiful

 although there was alot of CGI shots in the previous Spiderman movie maybe a few too many.

What advantage though does a cgi suit give to Superman? Green Lanterns suit is an energy construct and they felt they could only get that via CGI. The only thing I could see be cgi on Superman is the cape and that's just because a cgi cape would have more control then a real one. Any non normal shots would be a cgi model anyway.

Also Singer wanted to emphasis that Superman flies pretty damn fast and urgent. You liking a flying scene where Superman is taking Lois out on a fly by. Do you really want Superman to fly like a snail?

Superman wasn't flying fast up in the clouds at the end of SR. No excuse for that, it was just bad CG.

Yeah. Although the excess CGI I thought was in the construction site climax. A few of those shots could've been done practically, like MJ jumping away from the taxi and Venom ripping off the taxi's top.

I remember in Spider-Man 2, near the end, there's a shot of Spidey looking down at Mary Jane from the top of a construction crane(?) after the fight with Doc Ock and his reveal.

It was a CGI Spider-Man standing and then swinging away and it looked bad. You can tell it was CGI the moment he was looking down.

I posted this on the Costume thread. I think it's much appropriate here.

Anyway...

Man, I really hope they don't go with a Superman CGI or a CGI suit.

If it is true, it'll be sad that most of the people here have been supporting Henry and he won't even get to wear the suit.

I feel bad enough for Ryan Reynolds who didn't get to wear the actual GL suit. Andrew Garfield has expressed feeling amazing when he first wore the actual Spidey suit. I don't know if Ryan felt the same. Imagine you're hired to be Darth Vader and you find out you don't even wear the suit. That sucks.

they wouldnt be limited by materials.

every superman designer always fights again wrinkles and cloth bending. with a CGI suit they would be able to make a 100% skin tight suit that wouldnt have any wrinkles and still add the cloth texture on.
and since it would b e CGI it wouldnt be hard to hide the harness. you would be able to attach wires on every part of the body. with a suit you can not.

i am against a CGI suit. but from a stylistic, stunt and designers point of view it makes 100% sense.

I don't think it was just a CGI Suit more like a CGI Superman body double

That way, they don't have to worry about the body of the actor, and it will look really different when he is Clark, having his "normal" body, when he needs to be normal, and adding a comic book type body when he is superman

I am not liking all this nonsense about a CGI Suit, hopefully its nothing but fan boys gibberish.

My god Spider-Man 3 was awful, you know I thought the fx in that film looked worse than the fx in Spider-Man 2. Its like they'd gone backwards with the CG.

Honestly, it's true. Besides Sandman, the fx in Spider-Man 3 was questionable. Venom was the biggest dissapointment because in my eyes he's suppose to be the moneyshot andhe looked blah.

The sad thing was that Spider-Man 3's post-production was very long too.

I didn't think Spider-Man 3 deserved the flack it got, but it did suffer from the 'too many cooks in the broth' problem. Too many story threads, not nearly enough time to resolve them properly. But I thought the CGI was in good in parts, but it should've been consistent.

The problems for me were:

- Sandman is a lame villain and I just didnt care
- Why was Sandman Uncle Ben's real killer, they'd moved on
- Why was Harry Osborn Nightstalker/hunter (whatever) and not a new Green Goblin or even Hobgoblin
- The screwed Venom up
- Mary Jane was worse than Lois in Superman Returns

and more...

Its an enjoyable popcorn movie but nothing else.

I hope the Dark Knight Rises breaks the duct with the 3rd film in a Superhero franchise sucking balls.

But anyway its a Superman thread so I hope it uses a combination of realism and CGI (used minimally and only when required).

I wonder how how Metropolis will be portrayed? CGI heavy with sets?

If they do decide to shoot in Vancouver (which is a beautiful city), the skyline is kinda limitied and you got the mountains in the background. Nothing that CGI can't handle.

yeah good point, they'd have to CGI them out

Yeah, it's RIGHT THERE.

And they may have to extend the water so it looks like a shore for the ocean. Kinda like how Chicago's Gotham City was portrayed as an East Coast city.

I'd imagine that Metropolis would be based on whatever city they shoot in, but given a little of a "City of Tomorrow" look.

I really don't see a point in a CGI suit for Superman. It's not like GL where you can back it up within the context of the concept or Iron Man where it makes filming much easier due to the suit.

Exactly, it has a reason in GL and Iron Man like you said. I don't think Snyder will let us down.
