Honestly for me not having Barbara as a founding member is disappointing, but no more than Ant-Man and the Wasp not being founding members of the Avengers (thus Ultron not a product Hank Pym) or Green Lantern and Martian Manhunter not being in Justice League. Comic book movies have consistently diverged from the books.

i think its more a diversity thing than sidelining barbara ,margot robbie has been talking about wanting a diverse cast

Huh?

I don't quite get this....what makes Barbara Gordon in a batsuit more of an onscreen challenge than Huntress or Black Canary? Because she has red hair and is cute. Because some fans ship her and Dick Grayson? I don't get it. She's just another woman in a costume. It's not like she has some outsize personality. Or insane sex appeal. Or Shiva/Cass level martial arts skills. She's pretty regular.

Poison Ivy done right (ie NOT Uma Thurman in Batman and Robin) is the sexiest, most dangerous, most alluring and visually appealing female villain you can think of. Done right, Poison Ivy could absolutely dominate every other character onscreen. Even Catwoman. If I was Robbie, I'd be most worried about competing against a well cast Pamela Isely

When has Poison Ivy ever connected wjth people through the books, cartoons, or movies the way those other characters have? She hasn't. Harley has only been around since the 90s and she's bigger than Ivy. She got exposure from BTAS and the Arkham series the same as others, yet she's still not someone who has connected the way Harley has in a fraction of the time.

Then I’m sorry, it’s not Batgirl. I don’t care how you or anyone else twist it. Barbara Gordon is the reason the character exists, it’s not Cassandra, it’s not Helena, and it’s not Stephanie. Those girls don’t get to wear that cowl without Barbara being there first. I know you’ve got your own love affair with Cain, but she’s a nobody without Babs, and that is the truth.

Actuallt Bette Kane is the reason Batgirl exists lol. Stop being so dramatic. We're getting Cassandra and her amazing story and I couldn't be happier!

I'd rather they save Cassandra for a sequel. There's lot of setup there.

Basically. I used the Wasp and Ant-Man example on another thread. Cass instead of Barbara is something that is probably gonna enrage some fans but if the movie is good the audience most likely won't care.

Still haven't forgiven them for that. It's not like it would've made that piece of **** movie any better, but still...

I really do think it's stupid to do Cassandra before Barbara, and I won't budge on that, but I just hope it's a good movie.

I never said they'd just show a random girl in a wheelchair at the end of the movie and expect that to have impact.

I would say it would be a twist for most people, as most people probably don't know what Oracle is.

They could develop the Commissioner's daughter a bit and reveal she is Oracle later in the film. You know, build to the twist...like most movies.

With you on that, it just seems ****ing insane for her to not at least have some sort of presence. I'm guessing her role will be a big twist. She is BY FAR the most integral character in the BOP.

Alright, I'll admit it. I'm a little bit salty about this. I'm a sweaty fanboy, so I'm always a little salty, but today, I'm a little bit saltier than usual. Do i think this movie can work without Barbara? Yes. Would I prefer Barbara be one of the main characters? Yes.

I don't know how I feel about this anti-hero Harley. I'm iffy on it. I think she should be morally grey, but this will place her firmly in hero territory, and that's not the character I fell in love with. But whatever, these characters adapt and grow with the times, and this is where Harley is right now so I can deal.

That's silly. Ivy is very popular in the comics and the animated series. Even on the Gotham TV show. But her biggest mainstream appearence left a bad impression because Batman and Robin was so horrible. Harley was never translated so badly in such a widely seen movie, and never had to deal with that.

There's a word. It's called potential. If Ivy is done justice in a quality movie, she could be huge mainstream. No such thing as bad characters. Just poor execution. Marvel make D-list characters superstars through strong execution. Your reasoning that Ivy can't be a superstar character in a movie is silly, if you just look at what Marvel have done in the last 10 years. And Ivy has far more potential than flipping Rocket Racoon and Groot!!

And yet somehow a disabled, tech expert in a wheelchair doesn’t meet that criteria. I await with anticipation for the upcoming **** storm from the twitter crazies over this glaring oversight and subsequent Margot Robbie apology to follow.

is'nt barb getting her own solo movie?? cant really be oracle if your getting a solo bat girl film:sly:

Who knows anymore. I’m not convinced WB were ever serious about a Batgirl solo film.

I didn't say she was a bad character. Just not as popular and there's less reason to believe anyone would initially view Ivy as some threat to their spotlight.

Well, see, that's where the controversy comes in. if you want to get an unknown disabled actress to play Oracle, or just get Karen Gillan or Sophie Turner to play Batgirl.

I really have to explain disabled people to fanboys and vice versa over this character. No easy answer.

But they'd consider Barbara Gordon as Batgirl a threat....because:huh:

Like I already said, if I was Robbie, i'd be more worried about some child/teen actress playing a character who is supposed to be the best martial artist in the world (Cassandra) stealing my "spotlight", than a Librarian in a mask.

Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places but so far the response to this news has been fairly mixed, with many people wondering why they're leaving out Barbara.

Ah, I see you're still peddling that nonsense about Barbara not being a good fighter. Okay.

Apparently Lady Shiva is not the villain. That would've been my best guess for a Birds of Prey movie featuring Cassandra.

Judging from twitter reaction is mixed at best. Gail Simone doesn’t seem to see why there is a negative reaction, which is odd to say the least.

Eh, I love Gail Simone but she works for DC. She can't afford to be too critical of them.

A superhero with physical disabilities would provide far more diversity and positive press than any of these characters! Barbara doesn’t even have to be white either, I suspect JK Simmons is out. He was way better as JJJ anyways. She doesn’t have to be white, but she does have to have red hair. I don’t care if it’s dyed, that’s crucial.

Just Barbara Gordon fans going on their collective little rants. No big deal. Everyone else is excited to see Black Canary, Huntress, Cassandra Cain and Renee Montoya on the big screen... :woot:

Doubt it'd create more press when we're dealing with competing against a Hispanic (LGBT at that) and Asian characters, two very underserved demographics in superhero films!!

Props to DC though! While Marvel continues to ignore Asians and Hispanics, DC is going all out (Katana, El Diablo, Pedro Peña, Eugene Choi, Renee Montoya, Cassandra Cain...etc)...

Yes she does.
