Ford, 64, said at the inaugural Rome Film Festival on Friday that he was delighted to team up again with directors
Steven Spielberg and George Lucas for the film. Lucas co-wrote and executive produced the earlier films, which Spielberg directed.

"We did three films that stay within the same block of time. We need to move on for artistic reasons and obvious physical reasons," Ford said at a news conference. "I feel fit to continue and bring the same physical action."

"Indiana Jones 4" has been in development for over a decade, but the production has recently gained momentum. Lucas has said he and Spielberg, who would direct, are working on a script, though no details have been disclosed.

Ford played Indiana Jones in 1981's "Raiders of the Lost Ark," 1984's "Temple of Doom" and 1989's "The Last Crusade." In the last film, Jones' father was played by Sean Connery, who Ford said might also appear in the planned fourth feature.

"He's part of the emotional fabric of these films. I think there may be an opportunity, I believe that Sean is still willing and I'd be delighted if he joined us," said Ford.

Connery, who attended the Rome event last week, has said that no offer had been made.

Ford declined to provide details about a shooting schedule or film locations, adding that the directors were not yet finished with the script.

"I think it's a real opportunity to make a film as successful ... as the ones we've made before," he said.

Half the stuff in the original Indy movies is a stunt man. :)

Indiana Jones and the Nursing Home of Insanity shall be awesome. :cmad:

He still had Paul Bettany actually hit him though. :o

The character is a freaking Archaeologist/Princeton professor, not an Abercrombie model. Before Indy, nobody would ever baulk at the idea of a fit 64 year old playing an Archaeologist/professor.

Spielberg is more than talented enough to make it work. I'm just pissed there's no buzz about a return of Short Round all grown up.

ummmmmmmm.......

so...........?

64 years old.... I can't imagine how these movies can live up to the old... ya he can pull off being a 50 year old but this is too much... I love Harrison... and I'll be pulling for him... but this is really pushing it... this is one of my most beloved trilogies of all time... I hope Lucas and Co. don't fart on it...

Yes! :D
Come on, Harrison! Do it now!

The world needs another Indy movie, it'll bring balance...because of all the other crap movies we get nowadays :o

If he's fit to play him, I'm fit to watch:up:

You know what, I really don't want this movie made. but if it gets made, I know I'll see it opening day, despite mass complaining about how much it will most likely suck.

My problem isn't whether Ford is physically fit enough to play Indy. My problem is whether Spielberg and company are creatively fit enough to give us a quality film. Fourth entries are pretty much always **** (was there ever a good one?), and even with the talent involved so far, I am not really impressed by the rumored plot lines I've heard so far.

Old men and their delusions of youth... sigh.

Harry Potter but that was adapted. Star Trek IV?

I haven't seen either one of those. But seriously, fourth entries seem to always be ****ty. Heck, even third entries often fail (though I do think Last Crusade is the best Indy flick, and in my Top 5 Favorites Movies Of All Time).

I don't think it will suck ass. I just really don't want it to start with him teaching, and then hearing about some amazing find, and then have it cut to slo-mo of his hand reaching for his fedora and whip while strings swell.

And if he says "I'm really getting too old for this." I'll leave.
