Indiana Jones 5: The Future of the Franchise

George Lucas once said he saw Indiana Jones like James Bond, a new movie every 3 years and possibly a new star as well much like the James Bond Franchise. Well that didn't happen.

Now we have become accustom to Harrison Fords version of the hatted hero. In Indiana Jones 4 he is looking older. Age is something that happens to us all its inevitable, but an action hero can only go so far as old man before the legacy he has created is ruined. Now don't get me wrong Indiana Jones will be fantastic, the action will be superb but the Franchise will becoming to an end or should it?

I personally would hate to see another actor take over the role of Harrison Ford. Unlike Bond to many years have past where it has only been Harrison Ford. Sure if after Temple of Doom another actor stepped in to the role, then maybe that original notion of Lucas's could have continued with a number of new actors filling role. But now it would be wrong.

The way I see and the way I feel is for the Franchise to continue for perhaps another Trilogy is to have the Son of Indiana take up the mantle. In effect you switch Harrision Ford and his character into a more of Sean Conrery role as in Last Crusade. Harrison becomes the mentor and Indiana guides his new son who the majority of focus is on in an all new action Trilogy.

Part 4 could very well be the bridge to a whole new trilogy focusing on the son of Indiana. And so the legacy would continue without another actor taking over the actual character of Indiana Jones.........

That's lame. I don't want to see Indy Jr.

Indiana Jones works not just because of the adventure, but because of the charisma of Ford IN the adventure. There have been plenty of other adventure movies that have failed. Take Ford away from the series and the name won't save it.

Shia Lebouf IS NOT anywhere near the league of Harrison Ford when he started playing Indy. For one, he was nearly 40 when he started the role. Secondly, Harrison is more of a man's man than Shia will ever be. Finally, if they don't use Shia then what? Are they going to get someonelse which will give us someone completely different from Shia? That is what ruins franchises in my opinion. In my opinion this franchise is over after Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Besides, there already is a new Indiana Jones trilogy... it's called
National Treasure and the hero is Ben Gates.

I would have liked them to go with a Bond format... there are millions of artifacts out there... but it's obviously too late for that... Indy 4 will probably be the worst of the franchise though.

I like the idea of someone else taking over the costume after a few films or so. Like Bond, he would take up the name Indiana Jones.

After seeing Blood Diamond I really would have liked Leo taking up the role... or a younger Russel Crowe. We could have had Indy movies for another 30 years... o well... at least we get one more though.

If they actually made Indy's son look cool and more like River Phoenix instead of that extremely goofy looking nut Shia I might be for it.

But it is HARRISON that makes Indy, and having another actor take the role is simply unacceptable to me.

People said the same thing about Connery as Bond at the time... and look at how that franchise turned out... at the time you'd say Ford was irreplacable... but if actors replaced him in the mid 90's and the franchise was continuing till this day then you'd change your opinion.

But Shia already has Transformers as a franchise. Unless they set the new one like years after he died of old age or something. Dont ruin Indiana Jones with Shia

It has already been done... but I strongly doubt they will make a Shia spinoff about Indy Jr. The last thing I want is searching for ancient artifacts in the midst of the cold war.

Harrison had Star Wars while doing Raiders. You're right about Shia though, he is far to much of a pud to carry on a trilogy of this magnitude.

If a new actor was to be cast for Jones I would like to nominate...

Nathan Fillion

Fortune & Glory

Shia is a decent actor. Wait till we see some footage of him in Indy 4 before you start with the goofy comments. We are unsure yet exactly what type of persona his character will have.

P.s

A nice touch would have been to bring Short round back and he could be all jealous like of Indy's real sun....

Then in Part 5 it would like Rush hour meets Indy with, when east and west team up to uncover....bla bla bla...

No matter what you can't have another actor now Portray Indiana Jones. To many years have past......You can only have an Indy Jr...

Forget it. Make Indy 4 and then stop. Make a cartoon series or straight to DVD animated film or even a series of video games or something at the most. Indiana Jones is a movie Franchise with a good name, good films, good actors, and good fans backing it up. Don't drill it into the ground.

George Lucas is always trying to sell us the same stuff we've already seen before. How many different sets of the Star Wars saga have there been? Too many to count, that's how many.

Just let the series retire gracefully.

A CGI Indy with either Ford to do the voice or a voice actor who sounds very much like Ford could be cool.
