Has anyone read The Darkness?

I read a few issues of the v1 and it seems really generic. Handsome dude is a mafia assassin, has sex with hot women, and kills people (and now has powers). Is there more depth to this or is this pretty much it?

it starts off a little slow but it gets reall good. I used to read the comics but I got into DC Comics and green lantern pretty hard a few years back. Now I'm jumping back into image and I am thinking of picking up the TPB
