Basically it is pretty much the smae except allegedly some of the actors are not at the top of their game. Then again reguardless of the acting it must be a cool film because it got miller (or whoever) worked up enough to write a graphic novel version of the story. But the strange thing is that allegedly it was filmed on the site of the battle and apparantly the effects are supposed to be not half bad they even do the arrows blotting out the sun bit.

I kinda always have a soft spot for the old epics. Not only are they good but in most of them unlike troy or lotr if you see ten thousand people in a battle, Then the studio hired ten thousand real people and got them to attack each other.

The logistics of the old epics is astounding. The film The Longest Day for example, has a long non-stop bird`s eye view sweeping across the normandy beach for about 30 secs and there must be a thousand people running up that beach. Now those kinda films took serious producing. Not like now where you summon up a million orcs with your laptop.lol.

Anyway back to the topic, has anyone else seen it? Like it or hate it? I personally felt it was important to see it before i saw the new film. It was the primary inspiration for the 300 film thats about to come out so it must be benificial to experience it.

If you all don`t want to bother then fair enough, I understand i saw halloween H20 before i even bothered to watch the original. Either way works. Tis a free country.

P.S - I think the dvd cover/film poster looks sweet.

I wish I could see it , but I'm not plannin on buyin it before seeing first , and I never saw in on rental neither on tv , so got no idea how to watch it

Well you could still buy it later. Once you have seen 300 enough times for it to lose its almight cool factor that all new movies have.

Im pretty sure Frank Millers inspiration was the actual event and not a movie based on it.

No from what i`ve read he saw the film as a kid and that set him on the track to making the comic book. He obviously did his research and made the idea his own but the initial inspiration was allegedly the 60s movie version.

Was there a lot of gore/blood,did you cringe at all?

I doubt The 300 Spartans has that much gore or blood. Maybe a little. Now 300 is a different story. From what I been reading, it's ultra violent. Any fans of gore will be pleased.

The directors cut of The Warriors on DVD compares the journey the characters will take in the movie to the same story of 300.

Nope, haven't read the book either. I'll get around to both though.

Exactly I mean so far what I read bout 300

- Tons of Heads flying over
- Also arms , and there is even a description of a scene where Leonidas rips a persian's leg , not sure if he breaks it painfully or chops off
without mention all the blood coming to the camera

I think it's the big difference , in both films the Spartans are of course the heros , but in the classic one they fight as 'gentlemen' , in 2007's they fight like killers , bad guys

Nah just some blood stained tunics and a couple of immortals getting set on fire. You have to consider that back then you couldn`t get away with really anything graphic.
