Meh. Originality is overrated sometimes. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for fresh ideas. But the real test of a creative mind is to be able to take old concepts and make them feel exciting and relevant again.

And I don't think this decade is worse or better than any other. People have the wonderful tendency to only remember the classics and forget about the hundreds upon hundreds of duds that were released alongside them.

and this decade already had some good films that most likely go down as "classics"

In 30 years this decade will be consider the dark ages of cinema. So yes it has gone to far. It is way out there beating the hell out of originality.

I agree. This is why I think that it will be rejuvenated by a remarkable film like Star Wars did in the 70s.

Have remakes gone too far??? Yes.

Have reboots gone too far??? No.

LOTR trilogy , There WIll Be Blood , The Departed and if Avatar succeeds it'll be the trendsetter for future VFX spectacles to come.

As for the poll option , sorry that IMO is too black and white. It either sucks or doesn't. So by that logic any remake/reboot ( good or bad) as to either rock or not.

There is such a thing as a maybe. That a particular movie actually being good.

I've enjoyed most of the reboots I've seen but it looks like the point of saturation is approaching quickly.

I don't have anything against rebooting a franchise as long as it's handled properly: of course, Nolan's Batman films are the prime example. However, as they're becoming more popular it seems rebooting franchises is now the prime choice over original material, which isn't good at all. Remakes on the other hand, i can't stand. Why remake a film thats already been done, whether it worked or not? Especially if it DID work the first time around.

Okay. Which do you consider Star Trek to be? It threw out everything the previous films established and stayed close to the original by saying that the changes were brought about by a time warp.

A change for the better, the Star Trek franchise was dead and there was too much continuity after 10 movies and 5 TV shows, after Star Trek X flopped, both casts were getting too old to be in these kinds of movies, a reboot was the only way you could go.

Plus haven't some reboots worked out really well, like Batman? Plus the second movie Hulk was the softest reboot I think of so it doesn't bother me.

My belief is reboot when necessary, but don't necessarily reboot.

I agree with all of this, particularly the last sentence. The problem is, fans can't agree on when it is & isn't necessary.

Reboots=Good (As long as they're not done every two years)
Remakes=Bad. Especially because remakes usually don't add anything new except suckyness.

What about the Dawn of Dead remake?

Well sometimes you can throw the baby out bathwater and really a reboot may give you a second chance, but you could screw that up too.

I think wouldn't mind a reboot of the fantastic Four movies, because those movies sucked and very little to do with comics, at all. However since Fox thinks the fantastic Four movies have to be dark to be successful, so I guess I oppose a reboot at this point too. With something like Daredevil, I would propose a revamp, where certain elements are highlighted, others are ditched, though most of the cast would replaced. With X-Men I wouldn't have a reboot or a revamp instead I would focus on prequels, but with better direction and writing.

Also I really disliked Superman Returns so it would take a lot convincing to get to support anything but a reboot for that franchise.

Wow people complaining about Remakes how original.

The very same thing they say Hollywood isnt.

It doesn't look well for Hollywood as they have been importing or adapting foreign movies for their audiences. There's been a trendy surge from French and Asian horror films. That isn't new, because they've adapted from those places before. But it doesn't prove Hollywood's ability to be original.
