Have you ever not known what to do for a loved one?

The first priority for someone in enough pain to wish for death is simply to stop the pain, worry about addictions and such later and just deal with the now as best and quickly as you can.

They didn't do anything else at the ER?

No they just incressed her nerve blocker med, and said to see a nerologest for everything else. It has been a week since we were at the ER now and still no relief for her. I thought a nerve blocker should block the pain, but I guess not. Now we are stuck waiting till next week for the specialist. So it will be one more week with out much sleep for her... or me since I stay up with her most of the night.

I thought they would at least do a catscan or something.

It really isn't the addiction she is worried about as much as the feeling of not being in control that bothers her. She feels like the nerve blocker and the vicodine have dumbed her down and she hates to feel like she is out of control. hell she even hates to take her thyroid meds. That should show you how much she hates drugs.

I understand, but that's where you come in. Assure her she can be doped to the gills and you'll take care of her. At that level of pain, your level of personal control isn't a big deal as long as you have loved ones (you) there to help you out.

switch doctors and get that surgery. i think they dont want you to do that bc the surgical doctors will find out they screwed up. but how do you know it was their fault that they screwed it up?

either way get that surgery, switch doctors

Well we are going to push for the surgery. I am sick of her feeling this way. I hate to see her cry so much. Oh and I got word back from the lawyer today, he doesn't feel he can take the case. So there goes that idea and he was the top malpractice lawyer in town. So we will have to go another route. We were told if she quits her job for now that we would be able to get state funded insurance. So that might be what she needs to do for now.

I do have some good news. My wife called a different lawyer and he said that he has taken on some dentists and won before. There just may be one snag that he wouldn't talk about and it has to do with our family doctor. But if we have to change doctors then so be it. She is still in pain and we are four days from seeing the specialist, but this is a big step for us. Thanks for letting me vent here.

I wish you endurance and joy. Keep us as updated as you can.

Stay the course, Deacon. And good luck to you both.

If you win the case, you're buying drinks, right? ;)

Document everything you can think of that's related to the situation. Keep it all in a file and make copies.

Ok, so she has been put on a Z-pack ( steriod ) along with her Tegritol ( nerve blocker ). It has been three days and she still has no relief. The nerologist wants to take a conseritive route with this for now till she knows more. So we are going to have an MRI done next week sometime and see our lawyer. Whether she gets surgery sooner rather then later depends on the MRI results. But for now the next step will be more meds.

Here's hoping that something works and soon. Of all the people who deserve this kind of pain [and trust me, I can think of a few], somehow I doubt your wife is one of them.

Thank you. I agree, there are people who deserve to be in pain, but my wife is not one of them. Compaired to me she is a sanit. I still don't know what I did to marry someone so nice.

More like what she did to have to put up with you :p

Wow, you guys must be going through a very difficult time. I'm very sorry to hear this, Deacon, and I really hope things will improve for you one way or another. :csad:

LOL, there are times she would agree with that. But then she remembers that I spoil her rotten even when she is cranky. What can I say she loves comic book dorks. Well this one anyway.

Me too. This crap is for the birds. I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

This whole situation is flabbergasting. I don't understand the delay in treatment here. It's easy to play it safe when you're not the one in pain. I hate doctors sometimes.

To an extent, it's an understandable precaution, considering how many side effects most drugs have nowadays, and you could end up treating symptoms you caused with meds rather than an actual part of the problem [drug fever, anyone?], but yeah, she's getting the short end of the leg here.

I could understand it if it was an insurance company saying you have to take steps A, B and C first. But we are self pay right now, shouldn't we get what we want? I did ask the doctor that too. And she said well it depends on the MRI. If the nerve is being compressed or blocked somehow then yes surgery will work. If it is just a disrupted nerve the it wil not. Well not unless the just remove the whole nerve, but that would make my wife not feel anything on the left side of her face. At this point she is up for that. But we agred to wait for the MRI. I just hope the lawyer has good news for us.

I can't fault you and the doc waiting for the MRI, I just think the MRI should've been scheduled a week ago.
