Hey guys. I am going to get either a PS3 or 360 and I was wondering which HDTV is best for me. I really don't have enough money to blow like $2000 on just the TV (considering the fact that I then have to also buy a $600 dollar entertainment system), so I was wondering what are the best HDTVs if your price range is in between $500-$1500. I don't think i'll need 1080p, but it would be nice to get one with 1080i and 720p (I think it's still debateable which one is better).

And oh yeah, I saw some screenshots of Resistance on Standard TV, and the difference is astonishing. I guess Sony and Microsoft assumed everyone was going to chip in their extra $1-2000 for a new TV and then still have enough to buy their high priced systems.

Actually, 360 games don't look that bad on SD, PS3 games however, do.

for $2000, you can get a surprisingly good hdtv. plasma's have come down in price quite a bit (although i still would go with LCD)

Wait wait, surprisingly? I only want to pay between $500-$1500. I don't have money out the ***. I would be open to get a CRT too (they are cheaper), but I'm not sure which brands are the best and why. Like today, i saw a 32 inch vizio for like $949. It looked pretty good. But then again, I'm not sure if Vizios last long, etc.

ANd yeah, PS3 is just garbage on SDTV. Damn, I have to drop so much damn money on the PS3 if i buy it (no component cable, no HDMI cables, have to buy 60 gig if I want wireless). And then I heard a price drop is gonna be in like 3 years. Damn.

well, if you want a bigger tv, you can always go with DLP. they're signifigantly cheaper, and most of them now-a-days come with HD... now, i don't know about all that 1080i/p whatever stuff, so you'd have to look into that, but still.

True, but not a 1080P one. I've never seen that ability in anything under an 40" TV yet. And they cost more than $2000.

First off, make sure your tv is 720p instead of 1080i so it can work with the PS3 (no point in getting it if it won't work).

As for what kind to get, it depends. Samsung is usually considered a good bet, but they have also been known to randomly have lag for games, even with it's game mode. While the majority of the tv's don't, some do, which is somethign you might want to think about. IF, this does happen, you can usually return it for another, so it isn't too bad, just annoying.

Sharps are also good tvs and so are Sonys, although Sonys are a little overpriced usually.

At around 1500 you can get some really good 32' LCD televisions actually like Bravia from Sony or some Samsungs, and if you want bigger, go with the Samsung DLP (but DLPs in general are more prone to game lag than LCD). CRTs are good too (and cheaper), but the big downside is how damn bulky and heavy they get. If you're looking at around 32' and above, I would go with either LCD or DLP.

Well said. Yeah, thing is, XBox can upscale to 1080i, so I wanted to leave that option open, you know? Some games I see look better in 1080i and some don't. I also heard Westinghouse makes good TVs too. So I might look into that. What's prolly gonna happen is I'm gonna get a TV now and then a system maybe summer or even later. The PS3 won't be down in price by then, but maybe the Xbox will.

I have a 50" Samsung DLP and my 360 looks awesome on it. Just don't get 1080i it is not as good as 720p. I haven't had any problems with my tv and I have had it for almost a year now. DLP is cheaper than lcd or plasma and there is almost no difference in the picture quality.

Yeah, I had the older version of the Samsung DLP and it did look good, and while I never had any lag problems with mine, I do know someone that did (it just seems to happen on a case by case basis). It generally has better black levels than LCD so while it might not be as bright of a picture, it is better for watching movies. I did love that tv (until the damn thing broke on me :cmad: ) but it was ok since I had the Best Buy extended warranty and got a brand new 50' Sony LCD for free instead.

That's the one I have. Yes it's 720P and 1080i. My 360 is hooked up to it and running 1080i.

Didn't know it got 1080i. Should I set my maximum resolution in my PS3 settings at 1080i, or leave it at 720p?

I have an HDTV, and play my computer on it sometimes but am unaware of it's resolution at full. I bought a Panasonic T(tau), and am pretty sure it's 32 inches tho it has some features I didn't see on the one I looked up on Amazon to check the reviews and see if someone said. My normal TV desktop is at 1024x768 and it can handle that resolution fine (tho words are slightly blurry), I took it up to 1152x864 and it did fine too, at 1280x720 I could still see it, but the screen boxed in a bit so I took it back down to 1024x768.

I honestly have no clue how it'll handle a PS3, guess I'll just have to wait and be surprised :). Also it weighs as much if not more than a full grown man, that thing is seriously heavy, had to move it twice now with my brothers help, thing cuts into your hands bad (next time will wear gloves lol). I'm not looking forward to ever moving it again.

Set it to 720p for now. Resistance looks great on 720p. But it depends on the TV. Maybe toggle with it a little and see which one you prefer?

Does anyone have a link for a great site to get a cheap HDMI cable? Saw people talking about getting them for under ten bucks, can't find the thread.

You know when I first got my PS3 I was playing Resistance on a 19" Slyvania television which of course was SD. I didnt think it was that bad, however I just bought myself a 23" Samsung LCD HDTV and after playing on that, I could never go back
