He-man Sequel Series (Netflix)

Teela's reaction to learning Prince Adam was He-Man. As someone appointed to such a high military position, she responded way too emotionally...she behaved as if everyone know who He-Man was but her; uh did you notice his father, THE KING had no clue??? Also, the Royal family just lost their son...way to be compassionate? Teela basically turned her back on everyone over a secret only 5 people in the ENTIRE planet knew.

The way I took it is she was mad at herself not realizing it, mad at Adam for not telling her but mostly mad that Adam died and she couldn't do anything about it. She was emotional because two people she loved turned out to be one person, and they were gone. Perhaps the person she most loved in the world.

I thought her reaction was understandable.

People HAVE emotions...

And Teela was not some military leader off in a compound learning of this through reports. She was there. She saw her childhood friend, the person she shares a birthday with, die... And his death, revealed all the people in here life, not military subordinates, but her father himself, kept something hidden from her, this after she's NEVER been told about where she comes from. She had it with secrets. The secrets of where she came from, the secrets of Grayskull, the secret of who He-Man was.

I say grant a character under those circumstances the right to some anger and resentment.

Is anyone else with me that:
all the previous Eternian heroes in Preternia HAVE to come back to turn the tide at some point? Is it just me or is that TOO big of a resource to not come into play on the side of the good guys at some point?
I'm in two minds.
Teela has been shown (so far) to be the saviour... I can see them avoiding bringing them back to 'save' or turn the tide. Unless Teela is the one to convince them (and thereby making it her agency).

Or easily possible, maybe they keep Adam as Adam and a genuine hero moment to inspire them to come back.

I think they could have built up Teela's justification for the level of anger and disappointment. I agree her feelings have legitimacy. I just think based on what we were shown, I don't feel the levels of WHICH, seem all that natural... But I'm nitpicking to an extent. It's just my opinion.

To add to it

Marleena had earlier that evening made a mention of how Teela was part of the family. Hell, they eventually tossed in how Teela was the one to name Cringer. So many people close to her would not let her in on the secret, hell lying to her. All of that, combined with the loss of Adam/He-man, its easy to see how she reacted how she reacted.

Plus, Randor is a big dick. I don't blame her for quitting.

Well I just finished this and really liked it. Definitely felt like they pulled a bit of a bait-and-switch with the marketing, but I'm not sure how else they should've done it, tbh. Curious to see where they go in Part 2.
Release the whole thing at once. Especially considering what they are all saying now.

IDK, it seemed like a good cliffhanger endpoint to me.
It's 10 episodes. I can't think the original idea was to release 5 episodes, which amount to less then 2 hours of content. I don't feel like Netflix has ever done this with anything less then 13 episodes before. It feels so obviously small and incomplete.

I also think the bit of defense they are playing with basically revealing where we are headed, is kind of telling that they realized this wasn't a good idea. Well at least Wood and Smith.

Eh, if it's a year long wait or something then I'll agree, but I suspect we'll probably have the rest soon enough. I'm used to gaps in my shows and am not bothered in the least.

The huge negative reviews of this are really upsetting.
I thought the first 5 episodes were great.
This is all just people jumping on the hate bandwagon.
The first season isn’t even complete yet.
They’re just giving more characters their moment to shine rather than focusing on the same character as always.

It’s really rather mind boggling that so many adults are so vehemently up in arms over a cartoon. I get that there’s nostalgia involved, but it’s really not that serious. If it isn’t your cup of tea, there is a TON of MOTU content you can enjoy instead.
I get being upset that it isn’t what you expected, but this amount of hate is way over the top.

I personally love that the show did something very different and is giving us more fleshed out versions of otherwise sidelined/supporting characters. Awesome voice cast. I’m a huge SMG fan, so they had me on board from the start. I love what they’re doing with Teela here. I’ve always liked the character, so it’s nice that she has such a big role now.
Lena Headey as Evil-Lyn is definitely the highlight for me. She’s absolutely perfect.

I hope these negative reactions don’t lead to the shows cancellation. They really should have released all episodes at once. I truly believe He-Man will have a larger role later in the season and throughout the remainder of the series.

Well there you go.

We get five more before the end of the year or shortly after the start of 2021.

That was quite a snappy and enjoyable 5 episode watch. Orko was the MVP, I was not expecting to get emotional watching this.

This YouTube channels creator used to work for Mattel Aza Brand manager for masters of the universe. He's got a very sober take on all of the controversy I think.

I thought the series was awesome loved the 5 eps, but it doesn’t make sense to me for Netflix to split up an already short season. This show is much better than the original, and I loved the original as a kid but it’s really cheesy.

While I agree with you for the most part. There's not much difference in animation compared to live action imo. Both are fiction.

firsttime?.gif

Anyone who paid attention to She-ra would not be surprised. And as a big fan of She-ra, watching those who decried that show and praised Kevin Smith as their savior, I am swimming in schadenfraude over their reaction.

Disagree. There is a level of creativity in the design in animation that I just love. With less restrictions than live action. Its like different comic book artists. Yeah, there is cinimetography in live action, but you can't distort a person's shape like you can in animation.

Gave up after 3 episodes. Unlikeable characters and just generally bad.

Will skip the rest I think.

Each offer something the other cant but at the end of the day, they are fake characters. People are able to connect to both.

What did you dislike about this new series?
Just about everything.
Plot was boring, didn't care about the characters they chose to focus on, outside of Evil-Lyn she was the good one, they made Teela the focus and at the same time made her so unlikable and uninteresting to follow, the motivation they gave Skeletor was awful and didn't fit his character at all and lastly for a series that used He-Man for all the advertising he was barely in the thing.

I love Mark Hamill, but I would've preferred someone who could do a voice closer to the original voice actor's performance. It just doesn't really sound like Skeletor to me.

Also about some of the negative reactions... it doesn't really help that Smith denied some of the early rumours, and then they turn out to be true. So I can't really blame people for not liking this if they wanted a show about He-Man. I still enjoyed it, even though it's not exactly what I had hoped for.

I have to agree about Teela being unlikeable at times. Especially two big moments stuck out for me
when Adam just died, she basically makes it all about her... she's pissed off that she's the only one who didn't know his secret. Then when Orko dies, she takes it out on Evil-Lyn and she's all "it should've been you" :whatever: That just makes me like Evil-Lyn even more. (And dislike Teela, I don't think she even apologized for it)
