o man I just saw the gamescon trailer, with any bit of info that trickles out about this game, my desire to have it increases, that trailer was very gripping

Heavy Rain, now with 100% more creepy clowns. :(

Also, Madison's stripping scene is online and, wow. I won't link to it, but it is somewhere on N4G.com.

Can't wait to see the reaction to it here in the US. :whatever:

That clown is awesome. I actually thought that pic was a photo for a moment. Graphics win! :awesome:

Exactly. You know they will put the game in the same group as the GTA franchise which will be a shame.

LOL!

Ruh Roh! Hillary Clinton is gonna be all over this. Worst part is, she's only a few doors down from Obama and everyone knows he hates games, or is it just the Xbox? Well, so much for Heavy Rain, it was fun while it lasted, or wait, before it lasted?

A. This game won't be big enough or popular enough to get a reaction from anyone in the mainstream press.

B. Obama hates video games? Where do you get that from?

Sony seems to be pushing Heavy Rain pretty hard, if only as a tech demo of what the PS3 can do masquerading as a game. I hope it floats under the mainstream radar, but I could see some parent getting up-in-arms about it and things escalating from there.

So you say. Personally, I seriously doubt that the President of the United States is hating on the Xbox or video games in general. I think he's just using it as an effective shorthand that parents can easily understand. "Kids are better off doing something active or productive and not spending all day in front of a TV or computer" is what he's getting at. If I had a kid I would probably feel the same way. But anyway I've also heard him talk about the Wii on a few different occasions. And the fact that he can even make a distinction between an Xbox and a Wii tells me he knows more about video games than any other president and that he certainly doesn't "hate" them.

I went ahead and looked it up out of pure morbid curiosity. It's not too bad, there is some stripteasing, some boobs, and some gyrating, but not too shocking really. Though you have to shake her hips with the Sixaxis, which did seem kind of odd :/

It could end up getting spotlighted by certain media outlets. Though, it could be too small a title to do so, like Pandamar said, even with Sony pushing it hard. I almost hope it does since controversy may help it get more attention. I mean it may be negative, but that can often lead to more people taking peeks at it and staying for the ride

Don't get me wrong, I want it to be huge! But I'm pretty certain it won't be. I mean just look at the NPD numbers and see what sells well. Hell, I'll be specific. August 2009's top 20. You've got seven sports games, three Mario games, three "Wii" games, two versions of Arkham Asylum, a Final Fantasy, a Pokemon, Wolfenstein, and a couple of other DS games. Heavy Rain doesn't really fit in there does it? It doesn't appeal to the Wii Fit gamer. It doesn't appeal to the Madden gamer. It doesn't appeal to the DS gamer. It doesn't appeal to the "average Joe" gamer. Let's face it, the demographic for this game is very niche.

Yeah, I don't see it being a huge seller or anything. Indigo Prophecy did well, so I expect that Heavy Rain can at least do that. That's why I think maybe a little controversy might be good for it purely for attention's sake. I doubt even then most would stick with it, but it could help

So there were some boobs, nothing to graphic.

Yeah, but it's still preceded by a fairly unabashed striptease and you can gyrate and shake your barely covered bottom at the guy with the Sixaxis. If anyone goes at it, they'll probably go out from either the angle of 'They's letting our kids play strip in a vidja game!' or 'That's demeaning for women! (while totally ignoring context).'

Well if she started to give the guy a lap dance, I might find that a bit far for a game. But for what's there it's not bad.

Well, she does kind of does start to do that near the end. I mean I don't think it's bad or anything myself, but if it comes into mainstream attention I could see it stirring something up. Mass Effect's sex scene was pretty tame, too, and it got that whole Fox thing. I mean that was actual intercourse, though, so maybe it'd be different in that sense

Mass Effect's sex scene got 5 minutes of discussion on Fox News, and then the world forgot about it so far as the mainstream news went (excluding blogs and such). It was no-where near the media frenzy that some fans made it out to be though, and Heavy Rain's strip scene will be lucky just to get 5 minutes of discussion on Fox News seeing as it's a much less "mainstream" game. To put it simply, if Hot Coffee was a bombing, Mass Effect's sex scene was a beebee through someone's window.

It was closer to a 15-20 minute discussion, and it wasn't totally forgotten since it was referenced later and retracted by Fox and one of the panel members afterwards, and referenced directly by Bioware. It wasn't a huge firestorm or anything, but it was still a controversy that put some attention on the game outside marketing.

That's my point anyway, you don't need a whirlwind of searing controversy, but even a small mention/discussion on a nationally watched news station can call attention to the game. Not like it'll have people rushing out to get it or anything, but the more attention it gets, the better. Maybe it'll be negative attention, but that seems to be the best kind for getting people to notice. I know that's kind of cheap way of doing it, but I think just about any kind of awareness cast on the game can only help it in the end

Yeah, it wasn't a huge deal. Nowhere near as bad as when politicians discovered Doom and Mortal Kombat. :hehe:

But even so, how "big" the controversy was has never been the point. It's more about the blatant lies that Fox News presented it's viewers about the game. (Among other, more serious subjects.) And also the fact that games are totally judged unfairly by the mainstream media. Mass Effect's sex scene is about as tame as they come regardless of medium. Kids see far more racy scenes on the soaps they're moms are watching in the afternoon, but because Mass Effect is a GAME...

"Oh lawdy no! Them devil-worshipin' game makers are rapin' the minds of our children with they're perverted sex simulators! I ask you America: What ever happened to Pong!?"

And that leads to the greatest misconception about games; That they're exclusively for children.

There is no biggie about the scene.

If shooting people point blank in the face and ripping off heads is acceptable then why isn't what we have seen? Games with violence and nudity are given a 18 rating meaning that no one under the age of 18 should be playing the game and is not allowed to purchase the game just like a DVD.

Some people are just ignorant and think that video games are just for kids when they aren't.

Games are just like films, some are meant to be played/viewed by kids and others aren't.

If a 10 year old ends up playing Heavy Rain then it is the parents fault not the games developer who will probably get the blame if anything like this happens!
