Height insecurity

Isn't that above average in America?

I'm 6'1, which isn't that tall here.

Median height for 18 year-old men in America is a little under 5'10.

This chart is for white people, so the number is very marginally higher than the total average.

I'm 5'11 but wish I were taller.

Realistically, you get a better life if you're taller, let's not delude ourselves with platitudes and fictional coping mechanisms. Taller men get more respect from colleagues at work, they get paid higher salaries, their opinions are treated more seriously, and they get more and better love from women. It's a form of privilege, such as being white, male, beautiful, or rich. You just get more advantages in life.

I think people tend to have a warped perception on what average height for men actually is.

The average height for an American male is "5' 9.5" yet sometimes see any man under 6 ft referred to as short

Dude, you're in a comic book movie forum. Of course everyone under 6 ft is considered short. :oldrazz:

Sure, if all things are completely equal (which they rarely are), taller men may command more respect and get paid more. But then you just gotta do what non-white men have done for centuries - fight harder.

But realistically, you yourself are white and male which makes you FAR ahead of the majority of the world. (Ahead of about 70% of people in the US, because that's the only demographic stat I could grab in the past 2 minutes.) Even if you're short, you still have sooo many more advantages than the rest of us.

MAYBE my husband would get more respect and get paid more and got more/better love from women if he were taller than his 5'8", but as far as I can tell, he's done pretty all right for himself. Gets paid good money, he doesn't let people walk all over him, got married. (He actually gets quite a bit of female attention despite his shortness, but he's very pretty in the face.)

He doesn't really care about his height at all. He's always focused on the stuff he CAN change.

Because believe me, the way you work and apply your skills has FAR more ramifications than how tall you are. Very rarely are things completely equal, so you might as well tip the scales in your favor.

I mean, we gotta work with what we have. I'm quite tall for an Asian woman, and pretty ugly for one too. I nurtured my smarts and resourcefulness, and I married a white dude. Problem solved. :lmao:

I was 5' 6" I'm probably 5' 5 1/2" now lol I've always had taller friends. Never really phased me tho

Some people think it's their height that's keeping them single... Wow.

I'm taller than most of the guys here /petty

I think you have me confused with somebody else.

I don't consider a guy "short" unless he's just 5'4, or so.
Either way, it's nothing I give much thought to in terms of giving respect.
Some people are just short; it's not any fault of their own.

We should crack all these insecurities open, and have a general insecurities thread, not just height...

I know a whole family that averages out at 6'2+. They just tower over everyone.

I'm a 5'10" female. Most guys are shorter than me. While I do enjoy being able to see over most people's heads (and almost everyone when I wear heels), sometimes it would be nice to be seen as small and cute.

Okay, so I'm 5'6", and generally and objectively speaking, I'm short. The thing is, I shouldn't care so much about it, but I do. It really annoys me that I am the height that I am and quite honestly I'm...insecure about it. And I don't want to say this to be pitied - it's not like I am the only man in the world of this height, it just bothers me a lot and I wonder if anyone could relate.

It's bothered me so much that I was thinking of requesting a name change from XB to --> Shortman. deadass.

I like acting a lot and I've always hoped and wished someday I could be one, but it'd be hard enough considering I'm a minority, but the fact that I'm short destroys my hypothetical and potential chances even more. It's kinda depressing.

I used to be insecure about it, but now I don't care. For the record, I'm 5'5".

Ironically enough, I'm also a minority who aspires to be in the entertainment industry. Let's help each other out if one or both of us gets famous. :funny:
