I recently purchased a new stereo & wanted to run the audio from my widescreen tv through it but my stereo doesn't have any regular left & right audio ports on it for me to hook up my audio cables to. All it has is a headphone jack & a port hole to plug in an mp3 player to. Is there any type of adapter that I could get that would still allow me to feed the audio from my widescreen tv into my stereo using the mp3 port? I wouldn't want to go through the trouble of having to take back my stereo if I could still salvage its use. Plus it was cheaper than buying an expensive surround sound system that has much smaller speakers.

Your tv has AUX out? if so just get this cable, put the left and right channels into your tv and a regular phono into your sterios line in socket and it should work just like one massive mp3 player but with a picture ;)

TBQH, if you didn't buy the stereo that long ago, I'd really suggest returning it for one that has RCA in jacks. Unless you're getting a stereo that costs like $30, any even halfway decent one it should have them. It will take as long as going to the store to get the cord black_dust suggested.

Also, surround speakers are smaller because speakers don't need to be very big for one room. even a big one. Also, they have like five speakers and woofer, of course they're smaller. If the expense is putting you off, that's perfectly fine, but don't think getting a cheaper stereo will be better, or even better. Also, if they're on sale at Circuit City or Best Buy you can get a decent system for ~$70. Any Stereos cheaper than that would only have big speakers for show.

Sounds like he has a boom box and not a stereo. Both previous posts are valid in their info but if you don't want to buy a new system just get the Y cable black dust spoke about. Out of curiosity...what is the reason you are trying to hook up your tv to your box? Is it to record audio or for surround sound?

The stereo I have is a mini HiFi stereo system like this one. http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5982672

The reason I wanted to hook up my tv to my stereo was to get better over all sound from my tv & movies & to preserve the life of my widescreen tv speakers. I did have a cheap surround sound system already hooked up to my tv but that wasn't giving me the sound that I wanted, even at its loudest the sound was very weak you could hardly tell that sound was coming out of any of the mini speakers besides the big subwoofer. You just couldn't adjust the volume for each individual speaker like you can with a real surround sound system.
