Didio basically explained that Cassie's father is David Cain, an assassin, and Cassie's mother is Shiva (at which point Rucka shuddered, but more on that in a second), an assassin, and then said, look at where her genes come from. He said that exploring her past is important for her as a character, and basically said that it makes sense for her to have taken this turn as a villain, because of her parents.

Wait, but that...that's just stupid. Didn't the folks at DC just spend an assload of time and effort, in the case of Conner Kent, preaching to us that genetics don't matter in deciding the type of person you are?? It makes no sense.

I'm not saying Didio directly said, "but it's genetic!" I'm just saying, he seemed to be saying that the fact that so much of her history has to do with assassins, not just biologicaly but she was raised to be an assassin, so it seems like a natural path to explore.

Yeah, most of her history has been about fighting against assassins and their way of life. Puckett explored the effects that actually walking the path of an assassin had on Cassie in flashbacks to her early life culminating in her first kill. That was the whole basis for her hard-line stance against assassination and killing.

That's just about the same argument I was going to make. So, in Didio's mind Cassie is hardwired and predestined to be a murderous villain because she comes from, what, murderous villain genes? Ugh.

Off of Morrison's name more than anything else, I'd say. All-Star Batman is also selling by the barrel load, remember?

Thats partly my argument the tone of the book isn't as important as the talent behind it.

I'd say it was off of the quality of morrisons writing mind you

I'll be honest. i really expected cassie to come back OYL all new and stuff. she learned how to read, be more social and honed in on her skills, which really made her hardcore in the first place. sadly that did'nt happen.

I wouldn't. Like I said, ASB&RTBW is selling even better than ASS if you go by the book order numbers that the publishers themselves use.

So I've heard, but my original point was that ASS sells primarily off of Morrison's name, not because it's light in tone. Somehow that point morphed into one about quality being less of a determining factor than a star-studded creative team, though.
