Heroic Age

If the New Mutants are X-Men, then the New Avengers are Avengers. Unless the teams will be unrelated to one another, which would be weird if one of the teams is still technically outlawed when the Heroic Age starts.

Bendis said he's writing the New Avengers like they've finally earned the name in The Heroic Age. Anyway, Bendis created Jessica, so she's one character you probably don't have to worry about with him. I doubt he's completely forgotten how to write her since Alias ended.

I'm not worried about Jessica. I'm just not fond of Bendis' ensemble writing, or his habit of writing small scale stories and saving the grand scale stuff for crossovers.

Bendis has been writing Jessica a lot since Alias ended. She's been a major supporting character for over half of NA run.

I'm aware, but I didn't exactly feel the need to un-drop New Avengers before.

That better not be Pym in civvies in the back there. I want him on a major Avengers team, but not in his WCA Pym jumpsuit persona

Evil Wonder Man? That could be cool. Or maybe he's just overloading for some reason and the Avengers have to b****-slap him back to normal.

I'd totally be down with jumpsuited Pym again, but I would definitely not want to see him in Bendis' hands. Bendis hates Pym almost as much as he hates Carnage. :o

Nice cover!! I'm actually really excited about "Heroic Age"to me, it will be nice to see the Big 3 back together again.

Although, I'm just a little confused, because I hear different things from different people. Which Cap is going to be on the Avengers? I've heard Steve is going to Secret Avengers and Buck goes on to the Avengers team. But in a few promo pics I've seen, it's shown both Buck in one, and Cap in the other. And I wasn't thinking that Buck was going to put on Steves old costume, so that's where I got a little mixed up.
Has it been confirmed yet and I missed it or what? :csad: Sorry, I don't get interwebs at my house, so it's tough keeping up with you guys.

Bucky is the Captain America in both Avengers and Captain America for the foreseeable future. We don't know for sure that Steve will be in Secret Avengers, but people are heavily speculating that he will be given that Brubaker is writing the series and it would seem like kind of a waste to bring him back, reunite him with Thor and Iron Man, and then have him drop off the radar completely.

i think the problem comes from the Cap in that promo isnt in the Bucky Cap costume

Yeah, if Steve isn't the lead in SA then he's gonna be in something that has yet to be announced. Since we're getting close to May the good money is on him being the primary character in SA.

Brubaker had also stated that Steve is gonna have more of a secondary/supporting role in Captain America.

AVENGERS ACADEMY #1
Written by CHRISTOS GAGE
Pencils & Cover by MIKE MCKONE

THE HEROIC AGE IS HERE!
A BRAND NEW ONGOING AVENGERS TITLE BEGINS HERE!
Determined to keep the tradition alive, founding Avenger Hank Pym leads a core team of veteran heroes in creating a place where the next generation of Earth's Mightiest can be trained by the greatest of those who preceded them. An institution where everyone who has ever been an Avenger can share their skill, knowledge and experience. The future is in their hands...and in the hands of the six young superhumans chosen to make up the inaugural class. But who are they? And what dark secret will turn their world--and potentially the entire Marvel Universe--upside down by the end of the issue? If you think this is just another teen hero book...the last page shocker will prove you wrong! Writer Christos Gage (AVENGERS: THE INITIATIVE) and superstar artist Mike McKone (AMAZING SPIDER-MAN) unite to bring you a bold new era of greatness!

Ah for cryin' out loud! Headmaster Pym again. Just when they got him back as a high flying, ever growing, scientist supreme hero, they bring him down with a thud with "The big three are back Hank, and anyone can be a hero if they want to now. You ain't needed on the field any longer. You're D-list (at best)"

Plus, I don't want to have to buy Heroes 90210 just to get some Giant-Man (sorry, Wasp) pages. If he gets respected by the other heroes and looked up to as the educator of the next generation, then fine, they might be able to do something good with him. But if he's written anything at all like his Skrull copy was a Camp Hammond, then bugger.

I'm looking forward to Avengers Academy, personally. I don't think we have to worry about Gage writing Pym anything like Skrullowjacket. Gage gets characters' individual voices a lot better than many other current writers, and he's been doing a fantastic job on Avengers: The Initiative for years now.
i think the problem comes from the Cap in that promo isnt in the Bucky Cap costume
The Cap in that promo is almost entirely covered by his shield and Hawkeye. He could be wearing either Steve or Bucky's costume because they're about the same from the chest up if the artist doesn't carefully render textures--which, as much as I love him, JR Jr. does not. I'm pretty sure it's Bucky, though. I think the blonde guy in the background might be Steve.

doesnt Bucky Cap have stars on his shoulders???

Also, keep in mind that JR Jr. randomly gave Thor gloves for Avengers. Dude clearly is not averse to making a few minor changes to costumes, so he might've just left Bucky's shoulder stars off.

Quick thought, nothing big: How long do you think the Heroic Age banner will be on the comics? At least a year, right?

Until the next status quo change/event that they say wont happen now but will anyway.

Yeah, Marvel claims SIEGE is the last event for a while but we all know as long as DC has huge events, so will Marvel.

Marvel claims Siege is the last big event. Like, universe-spanning event. They've said franchise events will still happen, as evidenced by the upcoming Thanos Imperative in the cosmic line and the ongoing Fall of the Hulks/World War Hulks events in the Hulk line.

Plus the X-Men line is currently revving up for its Second Coming event, as soon as the current Necrosha event ends, which came immediately after the Messiah War event, which happened around the same time as the Utopia event.

*gags on own X-fandom*

I just wanna see good guys fight 1 bad guy or group of baddies for 4-6 issues, then move on to other things.
