high school freshman arrested after taking homemade clock to school

And a job offer from companies like Twitter and Facebook.

Which is completely ridiculous. This kid is not some genius inventor. He took the innards of a clock and placed them in a case. Someone made a YouTube video where they replicated his "invention" in twenty seconds.

He was used by his parents for monetary and political gain, and they **** the bed by waiting this long.

This is why the outrage over the situation should have NEVER existed in the first place.

Of course a kid from Arab decent living in Texas bringing what looks like a time bomb from the Airplane movie into a school will be scrutinized in today's climate. I'm sorry but hello? McFly?

Anyone know what it was like for a muslim living in America pre 9/11 in terms of how society treated them?

I mean i was 8 when the towers went down.

Seriously?
Months after the mess? And visiting the white house? And all the job offers he got?
Why raise a lawsuit against an institute of education? That's wrong on so many levels.

I wish I got a job offer from twitter, I'd simply pack my bags and take it.

That's the saddest part about this farce, the little punk got job offers, met world leaders, did interviews, got free stuff and a scholarship all for taking innards from an old clock and putting them in a pencil case.

And now he wants $15 million and an apology. How about he apologize to everyone he conned and stay in Quatar or wherever in the hell he's at.

wasn't there a recent incident where a black girl wouldn't get off her phone so her teacher called a cop who violently slammed the girl down to the ground and dragged her?

THAT girl should sue the cop and/or the school or whatever. Don't know if it should be for $15 million or whatever, but I wouldn't blame the girl and her family if they decided to sue.

compared to that case, this clock kid got off pretty well, I'd say. as mentioned above, he got invited to the White House, got invited to tech firms, got thousands of dollars in free tech, etc.

What they didn't show was that she swung at the cop first. She got exactly what she deserved.

There was also another video of a punk kid insulting a teacher, threatening her, all the while she was keeping quiet and in tears. That punk deserved to get his head bashed in.

Most kids nowadays have this sense is self entitlement and all of that begins with their idiot parents.

Most of the time when someone is getting their asses slammed to the ground, they deserve it for being little pricks.

This is clearly all part of the plan.

I'm in the camp that if this wasn't outright staged, then this kid is still nothing special, and didn't do anything unique with his "homemade clock".

$15 million is a demand. But they won't get anything near that much. This will likely settle out of court for much, much, much less. He will likely get whatever reasonable damages someone wrongly arrested (not even imprisoned) would get. They cannot hold the school or the police financially responsible for their own decision to make this public, engage in press and so on, and the backlash they received as a result.

This turned out to be such a hilarious story. Unfortunate for the kid that hate is being directed toward him and not at his parents, who it seems deserve it.

Yeah something tells me that his parents orchestrated that financial claim.

I don't think anyone is really assigning the suing blame to the 14 years old.

Unless he's really the mastermind. What a tweest.

Probably not, but he is still the face of this story. It's been said his father may have put him up to this for his own political gain, and Mark Cuban spoke of the boy's sister feeding him what to say about the incident while he and the kid were on the phone. Seems as if his family may be using him for their own gain, but it's the boys face in the news.

If Cuban's involved in this, it could get interesting. He doesn't seem the type that likes people trying to make a fool of him.

Now read back to when this story first broke and half the users here we're ready to give up their firstborn children to make sure this defenceless child saw justice.

They played the media like a fiddle. They don't deserve to get a penny.

Well there is justice, and then there's this. Justice is 100,000-200,000 dollars and a formal apology.

I wouldn't go that far. They sure as hell exploited the media but if not for the reaction of the police and school administration none of this could have happened.

I think we just have knee jerk reactions these days to the police ****ing up or anybody that's a minority getting shafted. Not all of them are the real deal, but it is what it is. Something like this is ammunition for those that already decry that type of thing.

I think most people know and agree the majority of cops are not bad people but the minority of cops who are get their crimes covered up by their fellow officers. The Abuse of Power thread has a few incidents where a cop turns in a corrupt officer and faced reprisal for doing so.

So especially the most honest cops suffer for the crimes of the unethical ones. That we're now holding them responsible and demanding action for transgressions is well past due. We're only seeing the tip of the problem because so many officer-initiated crimes go unreported.

I'm sure most cops are alright people (though less and less sure with every day that goes by), but at the same time they can murder me and get away with it, so when I see one I get the hell out of dodge.

Given the way posters here react to the barest of slights, many of whom are in this very thread, the thought that any of them would NOT be seeking similar damages in a lawsuit is pretty hypocritical to me. Have this happen to your kid and suddenly it would be a different tune I am sure. The jacked up conspiracy mind set here is pretty sad.

I was mistreated by the system so I'm expected to be paid a bazillion dollars.
