First Class used the Cuban Missile Crisis and DOFP used the Paris Peace Accords.

I think X:A should use the months surrounding the Iranian Hostage Crisis. People would be playing attention to the Middle East. Maybe Xavier is thinking about having the "Second Class" first mission be to free the American hostages when Apocalypse wakes up.

What other events could they use?

1980-1988 Iraq-Iran war
1981 - Mubarak was chosen for President in Egypt
1981- first talks about AIDS
1981- Space Transportation System
1986 - explosion in Chernobyl
1989 - fall of Berlin Wall

The most famous moment from the 80s I tend to think of would be the aids epidemic ask kasjan mentioned. It would be really bold of the xmen to deal with the legacy virus at the same time

Imho they should do an Legacy Virus storyline (but don't spell out the AIDS connection) and connect that with the apocalypse storyline, where they weave in the iraq-iran war.

The Iranian Hostage Crisis ended in January 1981, I do not think the film will be set that early in the 80's, it might be referenced though

I have heard some speculate they may tie the legacy virus into this film as replacement for aids In 1980's storyline.

I also think it is too soon after Argo for people to really take an alternate version of the events with mutants seriously.

Chernobyl and the Berlin Wall were already mentioned in the 25 Moments.

The Legacy Virus would be a daring storyline; it could be seen as too heavyhanded an allegory for the movies.

It says Mystique produced a version of the Virus that only attacked non-human mutants. I guess that's all Fox need for J-Law's main role in the film. It's also a way of bridging the gap between her personality in DOFP and her being a full villain in the OT.

Don't need to bridge that gap any more, she's on a different path

Mystique should be villain since A:She Is in comics and B:That gives reason for fans of say trilogy or at least X-Men and X2 a reason to bother with Apocalypse.

If Mystique ends up becoming a full blown villain in this film, then what was the point of her character development in DoFP?

Because she's villain In Comics. Trying to turn mystique Into heroic character Is stupid idea.

There have been times when she has been more of anti-hero in the comics as well. Not that that should influence what happens in the FILMS.

Heck, Magneto is a full-fledged good guy at times in the comics and he's the most famous villain the X-Men have.

Kinberg described Apocalypse as a "disaster movie," and there were a few notable disasters in 1986 (The Space Shuttle Challenger, Chernobyl, Lake Nyos), so I think it'd be cool to see whether Apocalypse is connected to those events.

IMO Chernobyl will be mentioned, it has a lot to do with mutants.

1986.

I think it'll be clearer once we get the year. Once we found out DoFP was set in '73 I immediately made a list, and the Paris Peace Accords were at the top.

Don't take this the wrong way but just like how [BLACKOUT]JFK was a mutant in DOFP[/BLACKOUT] maybe they could make a joke that Michael Jackson's a mutant? I mean you gotta be super-human to pull those moves! :p

They should set this movie in the early 80s not the late 80s. It is hard for an audience to believe everyone ages so slowly, but if the time gap is almost 20 years it becomes unbelievable imho.

Agreed, but you need to come to terms with it because that's where she's going.

I am not blind this is all because of jennifer lawrence star power. That's why i
hope she is done after apocalypse so we won't get much more of good Mystique.

oh boy would that be something to see
