Hollywood rethinking A-List actors?

Wanted had a nice mix of both though..
an unknown lead..and Jolie

and for sure Jolie helped the movie bring in audiences... same with Brad Pitt in inglourious basterds and Burn After Reading.

The couch wasn't a big deal. Crazier **** has happened on Oprah. It was him bad-mouth Brooke Shields for taking anti-depressants after giving birth that turned people against Cruise.

but he was on drugs on Oprah right?

he he ;)

Personally I think they attack Cruise because of his scientology beliefs

Honestly, Cruise piggybacking the Batman Begins hype with Katie Holes kinda turned me against him because from what I seen, he was very nonchalant about it, with War of the Worlds coming out a couple weeks later.

As far as modern audiences, I think we are getting closer to Ass: The Movie being the #1 movie in the United States every month.

The only thing I've ever liked Tom Cruise in was Collateral

As far as the Hollywood going no name thing I like the idea of staying that way. I RARELY go to the movies an when I do its something I REALLY wanna see an w/e is the lead actor doesn't mean anything to me.

Well, don't get it twisted. We have our favorite actors who, if they get cast in a movie, we will go see on name value alone.

Just cause you get lucky a few times its not gonna work everytime.

Like when they show names of people the audience don't know, they'll go who the hell is that? I'm not seeing that.

I thought the model for A-list actors has been changed and reinvented for a while now. Like well over 12 years I would say..

I mean I wouldn't really expect to see either of the people from Paranormal Activity in more movies. And if it is. It's gonna be a little indie film, not a blockbuster. People went saw that movie cause of the hype, not cause of the great acting.

Hence why the model and the percpetion for what draws an audience to a film changes. That said, I would still say they are percieved A-list actors (Johnny Depp, Jamie Foxx, Gerrad Butler, Kate Hudson, Sandra Bullock) whom studios bank on

some of the biggest movies of 2010 will likely be Toy Story 3, Iron Man 2, Inception and Prince of Persia...all movies that feature A-List stars and the first two are expected to break box office records (we'll find out about the latter two, although Inception looks like it has a chance).

Though one could argue that those movies riding appeal is the film story/character rather than actors, though they help..

i think the rule now is if the actor -big or small- can make the movie work, not just because he/she is the 'it' thing.

For example, I think that's why Jessica Alba was cast in the Fantastic Four; because she was the 'it' girl. Obviously, she wasn't completely right for the role.

I mostly see moive if its really good and hasgood story maybe some action or comdey. i thought distrct 9 was boring. i didn't like itat all. i even didn't like couple the moive reviewers like. we all like different things.

imo a great story and character can survive ad make bank w/o a named actor

but a name actor can carry a mediocre story and movie and make bank

i thought movies like 300 shut up people who say you need stars you just need a good story

I wouldn't know. I didn't watch 300 in the theaters. After watching the first few minutes on cable TV I flipped the channel. National Geographic's story was more interesting.

You think 2012 is going to hit big because people have been dying to see John Cusack, Danny Glover and Woody Harrelson in a movie together?

I have!

I still think 2010 will be remembered for The Expendables even though Iron Man 2 and the like will get the praise and make the big bucks.

300 is a movie everybody hates and it didnt have any stars in it.

Another example of people misinterpreting personal opinion for a fact.

300 sold 14 million DVD's,more than either Spider-Man 2,3,Batman Begins or Iron Man.If that's your idea of a disliked movie,i guess you're right.
