I'm looking into helping a friend of mine get started with converting all of his DVDs onto a drive array and sharing them on all his media devices at home.
After a lot of research, I have come to the conclusion that he is going to be best served with a NAS box, running a Plex media server which when used with a Plex or DLNA client can view his content on most, if not all of his home devices.
As a test, I have installed the Plex media server on my Windows 7 workstation at home and got the plex app for my iPad. The results are very nice. Unfortunately, my TV has no specific Plex client and I have to rely solely on DLNA support, which is not so good. But, it does work.
I was wondering if anyone else has been playing about with the same sort of thing and had any insights to share?
