Homework asks "If Fred Got 2 Beatings Per Day"

If they're referring to the Youtube "star", then I'm fine with this question. :oldrazz:

The first answer is 7 oranges per slave.

The second answer is 14 beatings in a week.

I need more information about the baskets of cotton.

This story is so ridiculous I can't even believe it's real. The worst part is, school curriculum's change at the speed of rock, so this has probably been their curriculum for years.

I agree with you.

I just read the article. A little back story: My grandmother (my dad's mom) was a math teacher. Anyway, so I'm reading the article to my parents. My mom's shaking her head in disgust and my father responds, "8. 8 apples each. There's the answer to the problem." Clearly he missed the part where it were slaves who were picking the apples. :whatever:

I like that they're going to have "special training" for the staff involved. Special training? I imagine it's going to be a quick seminar "Yeah, lets not put racist **** about beating the hell out of African Americans in our homework assignments. Apparently that didn't fly over so well, who would've thought! Next on the agenda, how do we connect Japanese internment camps to a science lesson plan?"

Yeah that's messed up. :down

I mean first it was oranges not apples.

And the answer was 7 not 8.

So not only does he have comprehension issues, he's not very good in math.

I never beat Fred. I did consider ripping out his vocal chords, though.

What, the Holocaust based trigonometry exam didn't take or something?

I get why this is messed up and all, but where does it say that the slaves or Fred were black?

Inappropriate? Yes. Racist? No.

I'm guessing maybe a century and a half.

Lol what the heck man!? Come on people in Atlanta of all places you should think hmm maybe the term "slaves" would be a little insensitive. And the beatings? What kind of question is that to ask a 3rd grader??

wow just....wow

This is just inappropriate.

This. Is. GEORGIA!!! ::Kicks into a pile of peaches::

Wrong on the first one. It's however many the master tells them to pick. Because if the master says to pick 8 oranges each but there's only enough for 7, they'll get beaten for allegedly having eaten one. Which transitions well to question 2.
