Horror/Thriller ‘65’ | Adam Driver vs Dinosaurs

A premise this cool shouldn’t be tanking this weekend. Unfortunately, it looks too bland. Too bad.

Saw this today and I actually enjoyed it quite a bit and while I don't think its nearly as bad as the critic reviews suggest its unfortunately still a pretty forgettable film at the end of the day which makes it even more frustrating.

Honestly, I was expecting so much more from this after that awesome first trailer and it just didn't live up to that all, especially when it comes to the dino action which they cut away from way too much IMO.

That really annoyed the heck out of me in this and I also didn't like how small and contained this movie felt throughout despite the fact that the scope of this is pretty grand, but it never feels like it.

Adam Driver and Ariana Greenblatt are really solid though and have some great little bonding scenes together, but sadly given the final product this definitely could have been a film made for streaming. It's a decent/passable timewaster at best which isn't the worst thing, but it should have been a lot better.

This could have been the premise for Fast 10! :argh:

Ah man if you didn’t think much of it buddy I doubt I will as our tastes align quite a bit with movies. Is it worth a watch still would you say? At the cinema I mean.

65 Directors Discuss Sequel Possibilities (Exclusive)

Woods. During the interview we asked the duo if they have any plans to flesh out their universe with a sequel and their answer is pretty open-ended. "I'll say this, we've gotten far enough as to go 'Alright. Would it be called 64 or 66?'" So, it seems that we'll just have to wait and see if 65 will get a sequel.

Reviews are not surprising but I'm probably still going ha.

If you really want to see it than I'd recommend going to the cheapest matinee you can find. Honestly, I think its at least worth a one-time watch because I don't see myself ever watching it again although IMO it was still better than sitting through Jurassic World: Dominion which I know isn't saying much but its something I guess.

Sounds good thanks buddy. May catch it next week.

Saw it today. A little better than I expected going in after reviews but still a little disappointing due to it being a cool concept. The dinosaurs could have been replaced with some sort of alien creatures and nothing would have changed, the emotional beats don't work and the dino action gets cut too short. I wouldn't be surprised if they cut quite a bit from the movie to maximize showtimes.

The futuristic sci-fi elements were really cool though, probably my favorite part of the movie. Some decent set pieces and cool shots along the way. I could see this catching on once it hits netflix or something.

I ended up having a good time with this it's a fun little movie. It definitely doesn't have the amount of Dino action the trailer implies but I liked what we got and that it ramps up slowly as the movies goes along.

It's like a mix of Pitch Black and Outlander with some JP added in. Driver and Greenblatt both give strong performances with a touching story between them that is the emotional core of the movie. The sci-fi elements are really cool also. Loved the weapons and gadgets they come up with. I would definitely see a sequel just don't know how they would do it.

6/10

Saw this last night, 6/10 for me too.

It wasn't as bad as I was kinda expecting, and agree that the futuristic sci-fi in the movie juxtaposed against the "65 million years ago" was really cool. It needed more of that, along with more dino action. It kinda reminded me of Peter Jackson's King Kong with all of the hostile animals and bugs attacking the human lead characters too.

It definitely felt like a mash of a lot of different movies - Pitch Black and JP as mentioned, but also King Kong (both Peter Jackson's and the other newer one), The Descent, Aliens, and even Logan. And speaking of Aliens, this really made me want to see another installment in that franchise with the return of the Space Marines.

I think if there are any sequels, I want to see more world-building about the "future" that it's set in.

Ah that sucks to hear, was hoping this was going to be an awesome guilty pleasure at least. Thanks for the review. I have a ton of good films to catch up on (unusual for March) so need to prioritise well.
