Hot take: Recasting Wolverine is a terrible idea

To each their own, but to me trying to recast Wolverine is like doing a remake of It’s a Wonderful Life with Chris Tucker or Dane Cook.
So you are passing judgment on an actor who hasn’t even been cast?

Dude, you are trolling.

Or what about the Young Indiana Jones adventure that was an attempt at having Indiana Jones without Harrison Ford? I don’t really think that many people outside of hard-core Indy fans really remember that show.
Plenty of people remember River Phoenix playing Indy in Last Crusade. And they remember it fondly. I’m pretty sure but for Phoenix meeting a tragic end, we might’ve been treated with a proper full prequel film. But instead we got a series starring the guy from Powder.

Of course that wasn’t on the same level.

I honestly don't understand people who get so attached to an actor playing a character that they refuse to let them go even to the character's potential detriment (see also: Heath Ledger's Joker, Chadwick Boseman's T'Challa, etc.).

Look, I love Hugh Jackman's Wolverine. But the man is already 55. While he is in great shape, it just isn't realistic to expect him to be Wolverine again for the next 10-15+ years. I am 100% ready for someone else's take on the character. Change is good sometimes, guys.

I think fanboys are their own worst enemies a lot of the time and don't think long-term. Some people, for example, are already trying to say that Channing Tatum should be the MCU Gambit based on one, like, 10-minute comedic performance of the character. This is despite the fact that he will likely be at least 50 by the time an X-Men movie rolls around. Just absurd.

After $1.3 Billion (and counting) Jackman ain't going anywhere.

The smart money is to keep him playing Wolverine as long as he's willing to.

Wolverine is a character where there have been many different portrayals/versions throughout his history and I think it would be of benefit the character of a new actor was given a chance to redefine the role in a new & fresh way even if the general consensus is that they’re not as good as Jackman. Dozens of actors have already played Batman and brought their own spin to the role, and while I like Jackman as the next guy I am eager for a new actor to bring their own interpretation to it. It’d be a tall order to take up the claws after Jackman, but certainly not impossible.

I’ve seen the idea of Laura/X-23 being the new Wolverine being thrown around, and while I do think the idea is inspired I also find it to be underwhelming as I’d to want to see a new version of Logan before get around to that idea. All and all, I’m not of the opinion that only Hugh Jackman can play this role and I hope we get someone else take a stab at this role (no pun intended).

Hmm they'll probably recast the Wolverine before Hugh Jackman is 90. That day will come even if its not anytime soon.

I want to see Jackman get his two Avengers films and rub shoulders with MCU
(and other) giants of the past 15 years, but ideally that should be his swan song having played the character for almost 30 years.

It should be the swan song of everyone to be honest, including the people pulling the strings in Burbank. I would love a complete and total rejuvenation from the ground up.

OK so you want to reboot the Fantastic Four yet again?

Ideally they should have waited until after the closure of the MCU to introduce them. My preference would have been a total universal reimagining, not a mixture of new material with greatest hits.

So a total reboot is unlikely to happen. From this perspective I want the FF to be successful, even if I'm not a big fan of how they are trying to achieve that success, through hedging their bets.

The man is nearly 60 dehydrating himself for shirtless scenes.

For the sake of Hugh's long term health, I hope to God he's done sooner rather than later
