How could Burton's Gotham have been improved?

I'm not a big fan of Batman '89, but I have to say that I LOVED the way Gotham looked in that movie. I liked the way it looked in BR too. The Gotham of Batman '89 was like a place of my nightmares, while the BR Gotham was just beautiful (I love the winter, so it was like a fantasy land). I don't think either version of Gotham could be improved unless, like someone else said, they added police blimps. I like Nolan's Gotham and the TAS Gotham as well.. even the BF Gotham didn't look bad, but it was waaaay too pretty and bright for me to think of it as Gotham.

Yeah Nolans Gotham was just bad...Gotham should look grey not brown.

The fact is Nolons' Gotham wasnt really Gotham. It wasn't dark, bizzare or basically hell on earth like it usually is.

It was Gotham. There have been so many different interpretations, you can't just call one invalid. Nolan's Gotham is just as valid as Burton's, Schumacher's as well. Nolan's Gotham was very corrupt, and was certainly like several Gotham Cities as portrayed throughout Batman's near 70 year history in the comic books.

I won't call Chris Nolan's Gotham invalid, I just prefer Burton's.

Ok I will though lol

I don't think he needs to re-create the EXACT same city that Burton did (and even he changed the look in 2 movies) but Gotham should have a cetain look and feel to it and that simply wasnt there in Nolans or Schumckers. Though I will say this, in some scenes in BF, if you took out the neon it would look alot closer to Gotham.

I too preffered the blueish hue to the rusty gold/orange/whatever.

Now in my opinon BEGINS Gotham is the best representation of Gotham City buy far.

However,I have a major soft spot for Returns Gotham.I love how bleak and dark the city looks with the christmas theme ever presant. It's like some nightmare place has come to life,it feels like you couldn't leave your doorstep or something bad will happen to you.

This is a place where a man dressed up as a bat, where pyschopathic clowns and mutated penguin man could exist.

I can only imagine what Burton's Gotham would have looked like in a Halloween/fall surrounding. Probably would have been even more astounding than his Christmas-themed Gotham.

Ohhh maaan. :csad:

Burton had the right mindset for Gotham, anyone else just love the color palette. You could tell the tone of his films, of his Gotham, just by looking at the posters.

Just the blue tones and very dark colors. It had a very surreal feel to it. Ironically, Nolan did the exact same thing. Every poster of Batman Begins had a very dark brown color to it, and that's exactly how his Gotham appeared at night. The effect in Begins, on the other hand IMO, just made Gotham look dusty, gritty, and not in the good sense.

Ah yes the infamous "pee colored tint". That bothered me too but thankfully Nolan seems to be using more bluish hues in TDK. I just think that suits Gotham better aesthetically. But yeah Nolan's Gotham is very remeniscent of post-No Man's Land which is a lot more Metropolis-esque than the Gotham City in the comics before the year 2000. I personally prefer the cathedrals and gargoyles myself but I don't think it's far off from what Gotham should be like others do. It's just the "newer" Gotham from this decade on film.

Well, I'm sure there'd be Nightmare Before Christmas decorations throughout Gotham.:)

In some sense that frightens me(a city with Jack Skele plastered everywhere) but on the other hand, I'd have loved to see it.:hyper:

I agree. A more blue palette in TDK is much more comforting than the muddy brown. Lol @ the tint color comment.:oldrazz:

I would've loved to see a Burton Halloween-themed Gotham.

Could someone post the shots in Batman and Batman Returns that were matte paintings? I love the matte paintings from both films.
