The "Why So Serious? Gotham City Noir" RPG: Sign-Up/OOC Thread

"Gotham City Noir" RPG Guest Star Application

Screen Name: Eddie Brock Jr.

Character Name/Given Name(s): Clark Joseph Kent

City of residence: (What city does the character come from?) Metropolis, KS

Resume: (Bio) Clark is a farmboy by nature. He was raised by Jonathan and Martha Kent in the little town of Smallville, Kansas. As Clark got older, he decided to travel the world to find his own identity. It was during these trips that he discovered his true passion - journalism. Upon returning home, Clark packed up his things and moved to Metropolis. He is the low man on the totem pole at Metropolis's most prestigious newspaper, The Daily Planet.

Occupation: Reporter

Known associates: (NPCs) Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen, Perry White

Anything else you'd like to declare?: (Factoids of interest) With Clark, what you see is what you get. He's simply a mild-mannered reporter with a major crush on his fellow journalist. She'll never acknowledge him, though, as she's attracted more to the strong, silent type.

What are your plans and reasons for coming to Gotham?: (The three reasons and character motivations in one question) Clark and Lois are in Gotham to investigate a number of things for the Planet - among these are the corruption in the GCPD, Harvey Dent's campaign for DA, and the notorious figure known only as The Batman.

Please provide a small sample post, in the format you plan to portray this identity, with three paragraphs at minimum:

Lois powerwalks off the plane into Gotham City International Airport. Bumbling behind her, I struggle to keep pace. Lois is a woman of ambition - and when she has her mind set to something, there's nothing on Earth that can stop her.

"How are you doing back there, Smallville?" Lois asks arbitrarily.

I drop my suitcase and double-back to pick it up. "Not too well, Lois!" I admit. I'm having a hard time seeing her through the crowd.

"You want to get ahead in the Planet? You need to learn that the stories don't wait," she explains condescendingly. I don't take any offense by it. Lois is naturally...rough-around-the-edges if you don't know her. "To be honest, I didn't want to babysit you on this trip, but Perry forced you to tag along."

I mumble, "Well...I'm glad to be here."

Lois turns around for a second. "Did you say something, Smallville?" she asks.

I shake my head. I then proceed to stare at my feet as we continue to walk briskly.

"Ok then. Less talkie, more walkie!"

Lois can't see it, but I'm smirking.

Then I guess on the roster it should say their deadline day.

(Of course the deadline day would be lenient, give or take a few days.)

That's the plan, except the being lenient. If a dude gets approved on Feb. 6 at 5 p.m. He has until March 6 at 5 p.m.

Well that didn't take long...approved by me. Now we need the GM to weigh on it.

Ouch...I was talking a wrap up "See you another day" type extension. For a day or two, no more.

With this RPG already on the downward spiral, I'm sure another rat jumping ship is no big loss.

It is. We need dedicated players. Just you, me and EBJ won't be enough.

Besides that, there's still a Riddler arc up in the air.

Gothamite you would like to portray: [blackout]Warren White[/blackout]

Class of society:Crime Boss

Resume: Recently released from Arkham after he pleaded insanity, Warren White was a minor Gotham con artist. Tortured by the inmates of Arkham and greatly disfigured, White went insane and became dubbed The Great White Shark. After being released on bail, Warren went off the map.

Factoids of interest: Skin turned pale white due to being thrown in the Arkham freezer by inmates, hair has fallen out and "gills" cut into the side of his neck.

Known associates: None

Three integral reasons behind choosing the character:
1. I wanted to get back in the RPG
2. I have an arc planned.
3. I play Black Mask, and this is his polar opposite! Or exactly the same, just a different colour.

Please provide a brief explaination behind your character's motivations: He's been driven absolutely insane by the inmates of Arkham.

He could hear the car pulling up outside the apartment and two people getting out. Their footsteps as they walked over to the apartment block echoed in the night, and Warren only had to wait a few minutes until he heard voices outside the door.

"And we never talk about the party again, ok?" he heard the first voice say. Falcone.
"You got it. That Batman freak scared the crap out of me," he heard the second voice. Viti. The door opened and the two people stepped into the apartment, and flicked the light on.

"Who the ***** are you?" Falcone asked. Warren pulled the gun out of his jacket and shot Alberto Falcone between the eyes.
*BANG*
Johnny Viti screamed.

My interest in this RPG just declined.....

That is real dumb. You might all of a sudden drop cause of it? Fat chance, with the characters you are playing, they won't even be affected. Not like EBJ is going to have him flying around as Supes and such. Just a one month cameo.

I'll still finish off the riddler arc don't worry. The cameo thing isn't the only thing I'm finding a little offputting in this RPG, a lot of people's posts feel like their trying to create what they think's going to be in TDK, rather than doing something more creative etc. Nothing against anyone or anything, it's just the creative direction which this RPG is going doesn't fit well with me, not to mention my increasingly small amount of time to post thesedays, this RPG really has to be the first to drop off out of the ones I'm in.

I'll try to get a riddler post up in the next half hour.

Alright, people at the party. Let's skip ahead to the next day or something. Sound good?

Cool. Dammit, we need a Gordon. I want to play him, but I play him in UDC and I don't want to corner the market.

Well, my hopes were that opening up Gordon would attract new support from someone - Hell, even MB.

Yeah, he's had some ideas for a chaacter. Jim being one of them.
Fresh blood in such a vital role would be much appreciated.

If one of us (myself, you, NufD, or Harl) picked up Gordon, it wouldn't help with the lack of consistent players. Val said she wasn't dropping, but she still never made that Catwoman post.

"Gotham City Noir" RPG Application

Screenname:
Master Bruce

Gothamite you would like to portray: Lieutenant James Gordon, Gotham City P.D

Class of society: Law Enforcer

Resume: (Brief character biography) Enrolling in the Gotham City Police Department nearly 20 years ago, Officer Jim Gordon was subjected to one of the city's most haneous crimes, when a little boy by the name of Bruce Wayne was brought in after watching his parents murdered infront of him. Trying to console the young man the best that he could, the incident left him scarred, seeing the hatred for criminals in the boy's eyes. Tranferring to Chicago, his hometown, Gordon and his wife resided there until Jim realized that most of that city's crime originated from Gotham. Transferring back to his old position, this time as Sargeant, it soon became evident that Gotham's police force had become maliciously corrupt. Without hope and without an ally, Gordon kept mum on this until finally, he was given the most unlikely of allies: A dark, and grim figure of the night to which Gothamites called The Batman. Seeing new hope in this vigilante, Gordon has maintained a secret allieance with him in order to rid the force, and the city, of it's evil.

Factoids of interest: (Special attributes - IE: Weapons, attire... anything needed to be known) Gordon's only weapon is a standard police pistol, issued to Gotham City Officers. He also has access to vast resources though his department, which he usually shares, unauthorised, with The Dark Knight.

Known associates: (NPC's needed to be attached to your character) Barbara Kean Gordon - Wife, James Jr. - Son, Barbara Gordon - Adopted Daughter

Three integral reasons behind choosing the character:

1. Batman: Year One is among my favorite Batman stories, and in that, Gordon shares much of the focus. Miller made him the underdog of the force, when he was often portrayed as it's leader up till then, which was a really interesting place to take the character.

2. I always play superheroes or supervillains. Never any normal, regular guys. Gordon is among my favorite characters in the Batman universe, so I figured it was time I experimented with the notion.

3. Provided I'm in the role long enough, I have the chance to detail Jim's rise against corruption and eventually becoming the Commisioner. That's an interesting tale, I think, that I'm very excited to get the chance at.

Please provide a brief explaination behind your character's motivations (ex: What does he/she believe in? How does he/she connect with Gotham City? What grinds your character's gears?): Gordon's view of the world is anything but black and white, now. Once, he believed in the department he worked for, but soon became aware of their corruption. He conflicts himself with his sense of duty and what's truly right for Gotham City, especially once he encounters Batman. However, he's also wary of his new friend, believing that one day, Gotham won't need his help... thus, if The Caped Crusader ever steps out of line, Gordon won't hestitate to bring him down, like any other scum.

Damn it all. I'm too old for this.

Barbara called again. Told me that if I don't start standing up for myself, and order more time off, the divorce will be finalized. And that's only the start of my troubles. Ever since that freak, 'The Joker', tried to disrupt Bruce Wayne's party, a real panic's been brewing on the streets. Will he kill again?, everyone asks.

No. Not by a longshot. I'm gonna make sure of that. And damn it, I can't rely on the force that needs me the most. This is far beyond us. Far over our heads. There's only one man I can trust with this... and I'm not even sure if that's wise.

I flip the signal switch anyway. His symbol graces the skies, just as I light up another cigarette. I can only pray Barbara can be a little more patient with me. I've got lives to save.

"Jim."

My eyes widen, as I turn around, accidentally dropping the cigarette. I hate it when he does that.

"Glad you managed to show up. We've got a few things to discuss..."

Damn it all, I'm too old for this.
