Comics How did Superman lose his powers (again)?

I am an avid Marvel fan, but I do take time to keep up with more significant events in other comic worlds. While at Borders the other day I was browsing the books, when I came across a "1 Year After" issue of Superman. It opens up with Superman landing on a roof, to give Hal Jordan his power ring back. However, Supes is out of costume. Upon returning the ring, Hal and Hawk girl take off to go see about a scream they heard, while Clark just hangs back while admitting to his lack of powers. Has this been explained yet? Or does that all unfold during 52?

Actually, the events in 52 leads up to "One Year Later," and it deals with the world without Wonder Woman, Batman and Superman. Superman's powers were affected during the climax of "Infinite Crisis" which just ended last week.

Could you please explain what you mean by affected? I do not honestly plan to read Superman, Infinite Crisis or 52, but I am some what interested in discovering what happened to his powers. It seems gimmicky to me. They aren't going to spend the rest of the book just writing about a powerless reporter named Superman. So there has to be more to it than that. They aren't making him Electric again are they?

He recieved massive amounts of red sun radiation during his battle with Superboy Prime. Him and E-2 Superman actually drove SBprime the heart of a red sun in IC #7. Apparently he is slowly getting his powers back but I haven't read the new issue yet so I am not sure how much of his actual power he has gotten back.

According to the newest issue of superman, clark subconsciouslly blocked his powers

I see....so they aren't really gone...just stunted for the moment. I appreciate the clarification.

Really? I dunno......I guess the subconscious thing can work. Because, really....would it take an entire year for him to gain back his powers after the Red Sun thing?

Btw.....does anyone think that him getting tossed into the sun would bring his powers back quicker? Not that he would have, since by the end of IC he seemed to need a break....but just a thought.

it would have killed him seeing as he had no way to breath and he would burn up befour he powered up.

Well, he could get GL to toss him in or something.

And technically, isn't his body energized by the sun? it would power up his body cells to the max......maybe giving him his powers back.

i don't think that Gl would do that.

and as i said before he was a baseline human, so his body would burn up before anything could happen.

Maybe.......but, his body isn't human. It might be different if he had his powers taken away by Jor-El or something........but doesn't his body run on solar energy? I'm not saying GL would do it.....unless Superman was badly needed. I really do wonder though, if his body would take the solar energy so quickly.

I believe that the point being made, is that Clark is easily a victim to mortal wounds, given that he is now powerless. If bullets can hurt him, then the sun would obliterate him. Also, try to use spoiler tags next time. Though I realize I asked the question as to how he lost his powers, there may be other glancing readers who don't want so much detail being given away. Especially since Infinite Crisis just ended. Either way, it is the duration of exposure to the sun, without the use of poewrs, that energizes a Kryptonian. That is how many theorized that Kara was able to beat Supes in a fight (she was exposed to yellow sun for the equivalent of a decade, without ever using powers). Supes will just have to patiently await the full return of his abilities. It isn't like he hasn't been powerless before. In fact, this would make the third time in my life time, in which Superman had his poweres reduced/lost. I remember an old book that a friend of mine has, in which he lost all of his powers, and had to use a rope and gloves to get around.

Supergirl only beat supes because superman holds back. kara didnt know how to do so(or isnt as skilled).
