Hubby has been jinxed lately. First his jigsaw broke and he had to replace it. Then his VCR broke and he had to replace it. Then his computer monitor stopped working, he thought all he had to do was replace the cable that goes from the CPU to the monitor, but that didn't work. However in investigating he jiggled the video card and now it works again. Then his van started leaking gas - the seal on one of the valves was gone (he's fixing it today). This has all happened in the last 3 months (or less, I'm not quite sure when it started).

So, how do you break a jinx?
How do you change your luck?

Any ideas?

Whenever I start feeling down on my luck, I usually do something nice for someone else. It makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside and makes the day a little better for everyone.

Seriously.

Do what Earl does. Learn from Earl.

Replace your old junk before they go haywire. And sprinkle chicken blood over your doorstep.

that should do it.

ohhh... I wish we could afford to replace all the old junk we've got... really I would LOVE a new T.V., Microwave, Stereo system, etc... but we're already sooo deeply in debt...

Where do I get the chicken blood (or do pigeons count, it's a lot easier to get dead pigeons in my neighbourhood)?

I think pigeon blood will transform your doorway into the Gates of Hell, but I could be mistaken.

No, that's crow's blood. Pidgeon blood will merely create a barrier against the spirits of evil solicitors.

But yet still draws the attention of the religious right who will then attempt to "cleanse" your abode :p

No whammy!! No whammy!! F***!!!! :cmad:

I've always found that the easiest way to change one's luck was to change one's perspective.

Jigsaw broke - fortunately, it didn't take any of his fingers when it did... and now he has a new one that with care will last.

VCR broke - now has a nice new one, and besides, VCR's are quite cheap (and also a luxury item). Could have been far worse to have a necessity like the furnace break.

Computer monitor stopped working, now it works again - no money spent, just a little time to fix a loose video card? That seems very fortunate. The monitor could have been shot and he could have needed a replacement.

Van started leaking gas - the seal on one of the valves was gone (he's fixing it today) - not a terribly expensive fix, and especially as he can do it himself. Very fortunate.

I really don't see bad luck here. I see good fortune in his ability to deal with the little trials and tribulations that are just a part of life. :)

Its luck that you were able to give such a great and rational answer. :cwink:

It may make me feel good (or my hubby in this case)... but it won't stop all the stuff from breaking and needing replacement... :csad:

he's got a bad omen around....

If he gets rid of it, he should be fine, so just hand him the divorce papers as soon as possible

:p

:csad: The furnace broke in the spring... we had to spend a ridiculous amount of money replacing it and upgrading our electrical at the same time (to get A/C installed).

We already spent money for the "computer monitor" problem. We drove around to a specialty computer shop to buy the new cable we don't need.

Have you SEEN the price of gas lately? We lost at least a quarter of a tank due to that bad seal.

Yes we are fortunate that we've been able to handle the problems thrown at us so far... unfortunatly our budget will not allow for much more of this to go on.

There's no such thing as "Luck".
He just needs to either take better care of his stuff or buy higher quality stuff.

I had everything electronic break down in one week, then, when my roommate's DVD player that always used to work fine, also broke, I was seriously starting to think there was some kind of electro-magnetic disturbance in our house.
It was all just a coincidence and I've since learned that it was my fault that everything broke because there were maintenance steps you have to take of which I was ignorant.

For instance, no one ever told me, (including the instructions) that you should use a lens cleaner on your DVD player after every TWENTY hours of use.
I do that now and DVD player is super.
The old one just stopped working. It was because I didn't know how often you should really use a lens cleaner.
