My favorite Marvel Super hero is at the mercy of FOX, but is absolutely critical to a epic Infinity Gauntlet story...I am sure superheroes are switched...

But who is the best candidate to take over Silver Surfer's role in these two films?
Who can take his role?

If at all there is any chance for the Surfer's rights to get back to Marvel it would change the whole complexion of these movies. But we all know its unlikely :(

He's only critical to the story if they're doing an exact adaptation, which I don't think they are.

They have the Guardians for their cosmic heroes.

Didn't he spend most of the Infinity War chained up?

He was super key in Infinity Gauntlet he warned of the coming of Thanos... like the other poster said likely a Guardian (Peter Quill) will take his place. At least the initial holy crap "Thanos is coming" part

Why can't the role be filled by Thor or the Guardians (Quill) or maybe even Mar-Vell?

But was he a key character becuase he did things only he could possibly ever do, or did he just happen to have a key role?

Not that it matters much as the MCU is not about directly adapting specific stories to film, it's doing new takes on things.

It had a lot of weight to it that Silver Surfer as powerful as he is, was terrified of Thanos... that's a big difference. Quill being scared isn't as big a deal,

Even if Marvel had the rights to Silver Surfer, he is a nobody in the current MCU. "As powerful as he is" means nothing. Mar-Vell coming to Earth wouldn't have much impact either. Thor returning and saying Thanos just demolished Asgard and killed Odin would have impact.

Very good suggestion! That would have loads of impact, pending we see the true nature of Odin's power in Thor III. He needs to be the one to kill Surtur while Thor and Loki take out minions, like the Executioner and Enchantress, for example. Odin needs to kill Surtur in glorious fashion to make Thanos stomping him mean more.

Odin should be caged in Ragnorok, and after a tedious battle of being owned by Surtur, Enchantress, and the Executioner, Thor and loki manage to free Odin, and then Odin goes Beast mode on everyone.

After that, Thor, Odin and Loki can return to Asgard, only to find Thanos in the Treasure Room, who promptly squashes Odin, and pimp slaps Thor out of the castle, and Loki grovels for his life.

I'd love to see Thanos destroy Odin in Infinity War. That scene would be epic.

Outside of some very minor details, this is my general thought as well :highfive:

The only problem I have with it is Thor looks weak-ish and we'll hear more complaints about this not being a THOR film but whatever, this story would be epic. Cry harder, b*tches.

It would also start Thanos on his quest leaving less to do in IW1 which is already going to be packed.

Back to how do you compensate for no Surfer? You write a different story.

That story will still need someone to show up and inform the heroes of Earth what is coming down the pipe.

Yep, that's all that can be done. I don't think Surfer is replaceable in the MCU but for the purposes of a particular story they will manage. Same goes for no Spidey in Civil War.

Guardians/Thor/Thanos himself. By IW part 2 you will also have Captain Marvel and the Inhumans. Doc Strange could even have a vision.

I don't think you need Silver Surfer tbh. There are not enough films to introduce him properly even if Marvel had the rights to him.

Thing is, for anything he does in the comic, you can use someone else. The Guardians can warn people of Thanos's coming. At some point we know we'll see Nova and/or Adam Warlock, so they can do it. For the one part of the battle in Infinity Gauntlet that Silver Surfer actually participates in, you can have any cosmic character who can move fast fill in.

The same way you compensate for Spider-Man. You move on without him...

Mar-Vell gets my vote. I realize he doesn't quite have the same impact, but he would do a lot to set up Captain Marvel's movie, by establishing his character before he dies.

From an in-universe perspective, even if the Silver Surfer were there, he hasn't been established enough to create the same impact he could have in the comics.

I could see Star-Lord or Nova standing in for the whole "Warning the other heroes Thanos is coming" part.

Surfer is probably the character I want back most if the F4 rights come back one day. Doom and Super-Skrull would be very nice too.
