The Amazing Spider-Man how do you convincingly show the 'spider-sense'?

I think I'd pretty much want it the Spectacular Spider-Man way. Some sort of vibrating, tingling sound, with him mention the Spider-sense in the Movie at least once or twice. But of course without the tingling animation around his head.

the problem with showing pete's spider sense is he is SENSING the danger he isn't SEEING the danger and that's kind of hard to get across to the GA.

it should be a screen filling effect that is very brief *look, I'm in danger!!*

* sound effect
* change the hue of the background (maybe bright red)
* use a bit of heat haze for the effect is dreamy
* all of which shouldn't last more than a second

I think maybe I know this is really ******** and something he's really never done before, but maybe to make it make more sense to the general audience he should touch his head or something to signify the spider-sense.

I don't think the GA is that dumb. Of course I've been proven wrong a few times. Anyway, when they see that he gets attacked, shortly after the sound going off, I think they'll get the point.

I can never tell when you're being serious or not

also don't ignore his spider-sense beause it slows down the plot.

SM2 - car about it hit pete *spider-sense* back somersault over the car (frigging awesome)

SM3 - harry moves in to grab pete off his bike *nothing* harry grabs pete and makes off with him

:doh:

That would be fine.
But it has to be a really annoying sound.

Yeah, it was annoying how they conveniently ignored his Spider-sense in order to make the scene work.

I like the way it's done in Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon. The Spider-sense was done rather poorly in Raimi's trilogy and was very inconsistent...

they could have played the sound, that's all it would have taken i.e. pete was warned but didn't have enough time to react

Spectacular Spider-Man had some clevers ways to catch Spider-Man off guard, even with the Spider-Sense. Like when he confronted Rhino, his spider-sense went off and he was like "Normaly my Spider-sense doesn't ring with the enemy in plain sight." then *BAM*, he got hit by Sandman. Simply because he didn't expect another threat, so he ignored his Spider-sense.

it was only watching the making of SM1 did I realise what the heck that first slow-mo spider-sense scene even was

* spit ball

* fly

* fist

all threats to peter. I didn't get that at all and I know the character, goodness knows what the GA made of that scene.

I only said it as an example of ''dumbing it" down for the mass audiences.

It could be done for the first time, when he wonders what that buzzing in his head is. Or when it goes off so strong, it almost hurts.

Agreed, that would be best imo

that was a great scene.

it would also be cool if they show even if/when his spider-sense goes off he can ignore it. for example

spidey is fighting rhino in an office building, rhino throws something heavy out the window and spidey webs it so it doesn't hurt anyone in the street below. as he is holding the heavy object rhino is charging behind him, the people below still aren't clear, spidey's spider sense is going like crazy but spidey ignores it and takes the hit to his back.

a very dramatic sense where the spider-sense isn't slowing the pacing at all

I hated the Spider-sense in the movies. The scene in SM1 were MJ is about to slip and drop her tray full of food; how is that a threat to Spidey? His sense went off there too...:huh:

he just became spiderman tho he did'nt have full control of his ability yet

Right... he doesn't have control over his Spider-sense. It's automatic and always alerts him to any danger to him.

I liked Raimi's slow mo but I think they should go with something different. I think it should be some type of filter similar to the 90s' TAS and it's crazy colors.

I would do the animated visual implied by the wavy lines Ditko drew:
spidersenseidea1.jpg

spidersenseidea2.jpg

Have a wave of blurriness flash for a few seconds, starting from his head (ending a little further out, not even reaching his shoulders.) Almost like a blurry halo.

I think having the screen sort of... vibrate is the way to go. Like, a pulsating effect. It's also intensely dramatic in a way, which is perfect for film.

a blur effect might get lost in the scene if its dark

i really liked the slow-mo in the other movies.

the wiggly lines etc from the comics wouldnt really work in a movie.

maybe have it that all sound goes quite and all he can hear is the threat coming at him? would only have to do it once or twice in the movie to know that he has spider-sense.
