how do you sort your blu ray/dvd?

I have them divided into live action and animation, and then sorted alphabetically. My old sorting system was much more convoluted and inefficient. I pretty much just lumped them together into comic book movies, sci-fi movies, TV shows, and then everything else, and I also had my Blu-Rays separate from the DVDs. My room mate's sorting system was much more effective and so I took a cue from him. He sorts them as action, horror, drama, and comedy, and then sorts alphabetically. He has about 10x more movies than I do though, so I pared mine down to two broader sections rather than 4 specific genres.

my blu ray collection (don't have many dvds) is sorted by movie studio. way out in front is WB and then it's fox (yeah, I know :cwink:)

This is how I sort them out by shelves

Superhero movies - well mainly Marvel movies, I have a whole space reserved for the upcoming DC movies

next shelf, I have the Terminator, Aliens, Predator and Robocop movies

Next, I have the View Askew movies along with the Star Wars movie (no real reason, just how they ended up)

Bottom shelf, zombie movies. Most every good zombie movie made I have.

Then my other smaller dvd cabinet, I just throw the dvds in there without sorting them out.

I do it strictly alphabetically, blu-rays separated from dvds...

I have DVDs devided by genre. The most populated genre goes first and then so on to the smallest. Within the genre I sort the films chronolically, unless there are sequels, a franchise, then I still stay chronologically with which franchise started before the other.

I've only just gone Blu so my Blu-rays, all eight of them, are in a cute lil pile to the side.

ha ha me too :yay:
I have one whole shelf that is dedicated to marvel and DC animated movies. DC is way out in front but marvel is catching up.

When I had VHS, I sorted by color but I never really did that too much with my dvds. Maybe a little...

I buy almost everything Marvel animated, so I have a few shelves for that. This is separate from the live-action stuff. One for my DC stuff and another for general animation stuff. There's one for Crime/Gangster flicks, one for family stuff, and everything else goes wherever. I need some new shelving space though.

From Best to Worst (well I dont really own bad movies in blu-ray, so it might be something like "From Best to OK")

Horror and non-horror
Movie and TV
Alphabetically/chronological

The way I sort is a mixture of genre, director and actor. I have all my horror films on a rack and part of the next disc rack. With those I have them organized by director or actor. I have a section for action films, westerns, war films, sci-fi and dramas, you basically get the point.

I seperate all animated films and even have foreign films in their own space. I mix my Blu-rays with my DVDs because a lot of them are ones I upgraded from DVD and want them in their appropriate slot. I know people don't like that because it doesn't match being alongside a DVD case but that doesn't seem to bother me at all.

My blurays are separated from my dvds. Then I have them categorized by genre.

I've actually started buying elite blu ray disk cases. 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 disk cases and moved sequels to one single blu ray case. for instance the spidey triliogy is now in one blu ray case. it saves loads of room.

Also, I have my DVDs upright and my Blu-rays lay flat. The story's in the detail.

Alphabetically. If it is a series/trilogy then by the main name then chronologically.

Tv shows are on the top row and then movies on the rest.

I have a couple dvd towers opposed to shelves so i've mostly got them divided my genre.

I have all my favourite ones at the top, then I have one level/space for marvel, one for non marvel and then several levels for action or similar films, which are then seperated into 'serious' action films (such as the Bourne films) and then I have all the popcorn/silly ones together (such as Underworld). Then I have sci-fi, comedy, TV and stand up and then horror. On the very bottom I have either the rubbish ones or guilty pleasures and I have all my box sets on the chest of drawers next to my dvd towers.

same here, except that movies are on top and shows on the bottom

I sort mine by genre. My old sorting system sucked though. I would sort them by when I purchased them.
