How do you think they'll kill off Cap after Chris Evans' contract expires?

I really hope that in Avengers 3, there'll be a scene where Thanos has beaten all of the other Avengers, and Cap walks up to Thanos like a boss and makes an epic speech and then Thanos smashes his shield and kills him, just like in the comics except it doesn't get reset. I'd be disappointed with anything else to be honest.

I think that will happen, but I don't know if Cap will stay dead because of it. I would hope that they stay close to the Infinity Gauntlet storyline by having Thanos essentially kill EVERYONE, but in the end Nebula (or maybe Adam Warlock) takes the Gauntlet off him and undoes all of his actions, bringing everyone back to life. The only problem with that is we sort of just had that in a superhero movie this year with "X-Men: Days of Future Past" with a bunch of the heroes dying and getting a reprieve in the end due to messing with time. I could also see them changing it so Cap sacrifices himself to save everyone else and be the only one who stays dead, too. We'll have to wait and see.

On the other hand, I also wouldn't be opposed to seeing this in a film:

It would open the door for Bucky to become the new Cap, which would make sense considering Sebastian Stan's contract. They wouldn't do it in Cap 3, but maybe if they could get Chris Evans to come back for one more film after Avengers 3 to pass the torch.

I honestly have no expectations going into AoU.

I'm starting to think Ultron kills everyone and Thanos comes in with the Reality stone and fixes everything. Just to show he's 10x more powerful than a threat way too great for the Avengers.

But if you ask me, I bet Rumlow kills Cap. It would fit pretty well at this point.

Agreed. Assuming Evans doesn't re-sign. But, whenever he is finished with the role, they will re-cast.

What? No. Cap in the films is most likely just going to be recast as has been the generally accepted idea since Marvel Studios and Marvel Comics are... Um... Not the same thing? Sorry, but the idea that some think that every single story arc or idea from the modern comics MUST be used in the films for Marvel or WB/DCE films baffles the hell out of me. Could it be so? Anything could happen. But do you really think all the various things done in recent years in comics is even worth adapting, or that those things are what the mass audience even want to see?

It's most likely that Steve will die AND get recast. Dyingreally doesn't mean anything in the MCU.

Cap has reconciled with Bucky/Winter Soldier and they're racing against the clock to save a major city from a nuclear bomb planted somewhere in the sewers by Crossbones. Bucky gets ambushed and goes down for the count, meanwhile Cap defeats a more hardened Crossbones only to be delayed by ... Red Skull... now in a younger stronger cloned body. As the Skull's boot comes stomping down on Steve's face, the last thing he sees is the bright flash as he hears the demented laughter...

Steve jerk's up from sleep suddenly, cold sweat pouring off of him as he looks to his left and sees Sharon Carter lying peacefully, "... just a dream" he says, then looking to his right at Natasha, with the biggest grin on his face. You didn't really think I would support killing Cap did you?

I think Steve should die in Avengers 3 at the hands of Thanos and then Sam takes over the role. Not at the end of the film either...it should be in the 3rd act and give Sam a chance to dawn the outfit for the final battle.

I wouldn't kill him, myself. If Steve Rogers dies, I probably won't continue to follow a "fake" Captain America. Not sure how the public at large would take it.

So hypothetically speaking, once Rogers is killed the way some of you want, what happens then? Do we get a trilogy of the new Captain America and in ensuing Avengers? What after that? Does that Cap get killed off? Do we get more Cap movies with the replacement, which is a relatively new development in the comics, than with the original who has over 75 years of stories? Does Rogers come back?

Agreed. I don't know why re-casting is such a foreign concept for some people. They have already done it with War Machine and Hulk.

Its a desperate hope that Marvel Studios will torpedo their own edifice by flooding it with grimdark "realism".
