How Does Dbz Compare To Most Anime

I guess you could say i do have a prolem with the shounen genre as a whole. The main problem is that the overall premise could be interesting but the execution is so slow along with the fact the focus on powering up and their big swords/and or energy blasts it gets boring. On a side note if i had to pick the one i could tolerate the most i would have to say its Bleach because the character design is cool.

As far as Rurouni Kenshin Ive never seen it but from what i heard form other people is that it lost its flare before it was cancelled.

The anime? The anime sucked the instant it stopped following the manga in favor of filler arcs. As for the manga itself, it is very good, and I haven't heard too many people complain about it. I would give it a read were I you.

And if the anime i listed arent shounen could you tell me what each are by genre?

It all depends on the age group the series targets. For reference--

im jus curious as to what they are. btw i take it from your icon that you have an interest in Pokemon. What are your thoughts on Digimon.

To be fair, I mostly only like the Pokemon video games, and only use this Av because Zangoose reminds me of my favorite book by Kipling "Rikki Tikki Tavi".:P
But yeah, I like certain seriess of the digimon anime. Mainly, Digimon Adventures and Digimon Tamers. Some of the games are okay too. The only thing I don't like about it is the bad and recycled animation used most of the time. But I can deal look past it and enjoy the story.

i think dragon ball is one of those series that you cant take to seriously, its pretty much the epitomy of a kid dream of being a superhero and saving the day. I mean its not meant to be complex or deep its just to get a good laugh and enjoy a cute little story. That's why you have many people who still have a fond place for dragon ball, because it appeals to the kid in all of us.

I will admit that the pacing is bad, but that's not a dragon ball problem its a 'animator catching up with the manga writer problem'. For the most part Toie wanted to stay as close to the story as possible but when you are a) catching up with the writer or b) having to take a scene that might amount to 6 pages and have to turn it into 30min show you have to improvise.

The character development is poor in the shonen genre as a whole and naruto is no exception, I'm not being biased it's just fact you can summorize many of the naruto characters the same way you can with DB. One piece, bleach, etc. it's the flaw of the genre.

Naruto is popular, but mainly in the U.S. in japan one piece outsells it 2-to-1, unlike DB when it was popular it was a global phenomeon. In addition to that in the 90's and early 2000's you were bombarded with DBZ stuff now compare that with naruto...very few ads and the toy merchandise is not exactly wall to wall coverage. Heck last year i saw more ads on cartoon network and nick for the re-dubing and uncut edition of DBZ fusion reborn...an old dbz movie...than naruto stuff. Maybe that's Viz style i dont know, I know funimation loves to ****e out DBZ, but for 20+ year show to get more ad time and new toy deals(the fans demanded it?) is a little odd.

The insane power levels in the show are a problem, but if we go back to the begining of the series Toriyama set out to make it a parody of martial arts so in my opinion it sort of ties in with the whole over the top theme.

but to each his own.

Dragonball is awesome; it was a great show for its time period. Akira Toriayama did a fantastic job with the writing and the direction. He didn't write any of the DBZ saga and it showed. The pacing was nightmarish and the episodes were filled with very little. Toriayama had nothing to do with the crap that is GT.:down

edit: I do think that DBZ trailblazed some effective ways for the marketing of anime. I can think of a few shows that learned from the DBZ shortcomings and went on to create worlds full of characters you knew, but also respected because of their layers.

You do realize that Toriayama wrote DBZ, right?

Toriayama wrote Dragonball and consulted with many writers who wrote DBZ for an animehouse. He didn't directly write all of the DBZ episodes; he came up with a lot of the ideas that other writers used(and in my opinion, mishandled).

edit: I always thought he wrote the DBZ movies, but the show was handled by Toei Animation?

I love the show and Naruto its a tie for me. But the magna has been a little slugish latley, its finally getting back to the goodness.

I'm not a huge fan of DBZ, but i do give it it's due.

:huh:You do know the Anime was adapted from the manga Dragonball? Toriayama was behind every Saga excluding that **** fest GT. Obviously the anime added fillers but Freiza, Cell and Buu Saga were all Toriayama.

to me dbz will always be my favorite anime
and i think it is the best but almost everybody i know that is a real big anime fan will disagree with me so lets talk about it here
dragon ball z is the best i like naruto but dragonball z is a lot better

It doesnt compare, like comic books anime has become more gritty, and dark. Its what sells to an adult audience. At one point you realize that even kids like things more hardcore. It becomes a different market when adults watch anime, they like blood and gore.

what about what us old guys called "The Perfect 5"?

Akira
Fist of the North Star
Vampire Hunter D
The Professional: Gol Go 13
and
Wicked City

very good stuff came after those, we pay respects to those first.
