How Does Dbz Compare To Most Anime

Naruto isnt DBZ level...and wont be until Shippuden comes out

Anime-wise, Shipuuden is pretty bad dude. It's practically the DBGT of Naruto, which definitely isn't a good thing. I doubt the dub version could do anything to change this.

why...whats so bad about shippuden?

Bad animation. Slow Pacing. Bad Music. Too many flash backs per episode. You'll see eventually. Horrible fillers, even by generic filler standards. Not to mention this filler scene was dubbed the worst fight in anime history by many all across the web.

Most will tell you to just read the manga at this point in Naruto, but I'll tell you, wait until it comes to America, and then decide if you like it.

I think the 'fight' orientated anime is somewhat a false representation of what actually is somewhat a genre that offers a very mature narrative and normally doens't treat animation to a gateway to communication exclusively to children.

DBZ in my eyes hinders everything a generic anime film stands for in my eyes.

It's like comparing ong bak to casshern or warrior king to hero. In the first, it's all about the fights, with the second the fights take second place to the narrative.

I first got into DBZ near the end of 5th grade I think.. and i'm almost 22 now. DBZ's been with me a long time so i'll always have a soft spot for it.

I first got into DBZ in 2000...I`m 23 yrs old now...I`ve liked Naruto for a little over a year

Dragon Ball z is pretty bad. When i was a kid i watched it and loved it because i knew no better but its pretty bad.
I keep on seeing people mention Naruto which is pretty craptastic as well.

Anywhoo i take it from ur question u might be new to anime so let me tell you the ones to steer clear of.

Naruto-

Yu Yu hakusho

Dragonball Z and GT( the original is worth a watch but you could live with out it.)

Inuyasha-(the first two seasons were good and had potential but they gave up on actually caring about the show after that. And i must say it is one of the most dragged out stories ever and it doesnt even have an ending. RIP OFF!!!)

Pretty much, you're one of those people that hates everything that's popular and thinks you're cool because of it.

That's because the manga hasn't even finished yet. At least they aren't making up crap like they did with Rurouni Kenshin when it caught up with the book.

As for DragonBall Z, while it's importance to anime really can't be undermined, it really is a big steaming pile of crap. I remember when I was 9 and I hated it because of the pacing.

And the fanboys it produced :cmad:

DBZ is infamous for the pacing. There's no way around it.. most of an episode is spent gloating and staring, then an attack which cloaks the opponent in smoke, and next thing you know.. "NEXT TIME ON DRAGON BALL Z"

It's probably just a love it or hate it thing. My dad always hated it because "all they do is scream" lol

i love Dragonball Z to death, but i have to admit compared to modern anime shows, it falls short.

dragonball z made people fall in love with anime
regardless of what you people may say
im pretty sure all of you watched and enjoyed dbz at one point in time
the point of the show is to fight
so if somebody doesnt like to see nice fight scenes then they have no reason to watch the show
i watch anime to watch good action scenes and fantasy type stuff
if i wanted to see a drama i would watch a soap opera not an anime

Yeah, when I was 12. I tried watching it again about two years ago and I couldn't sit through more than two episodes before I had to turn it off. It's a bad show with bad animation, bad characters and an even worse plot. Not to mention that it's like 300 episodes long, probably of which 150 could easily be removed and cut out from the fight sequences, power ups, stupid 'this is what happened last itme' told by the characters. I mean hell, watching it week to week for new episodes sucked because each episode wasn't actually an episode. It was part of a 3 or 4 part longer episode, or so it seemed.

Bah Dragonball rocks ass, its over a decade old, cannot think of many shows better at the time. It's influence shouldn't be forgotten.

We all like to say its crap ...NOW

But come on, have you tried watching old He-man, Transformers even Thundercats today?

Some of those episodes are truly awful and I loved those shows as a kid

I don't see how the story is weak either

Dragonball Z up to Freiza's death on Namek is a great story especially if you factor in the Bardock speacial.

Funnily the longest power up that I ever saw was in the ORIGINAL drgaonball when Goku is fighting Piccolo. It goes on for forever lol

Shippuuden has been slightly disappointing especially lately, but I think it will pick up

DBZ is simplistic and for small children, honestly. It's a kid's show. 10-13 year olds. But it's historically important and it's a "gateway anime" that got a lot of people into the medium and later into more sophisticated anime.

lol no im pretty much one of those people who hates things that are popular if they are derivative and unworthy of the popularity that they recieve. And i dont think im cool because of it i just think im right (as concieted as that may sound) And if you wish to proove me wrong then so be it.

I like Cowboy Bebop and heroes and those are both pretty popular so you cant say that i hate things just because they are popular. And i take it from that statement that you think im one of those stuck up Evangelion fans huh? lol

These two dudes bring up the core of my argument. Honestly there are a grip of cartoons that we can all look back on and say those were really good as a child whther they be anime or other wise. Here are a few imo that stand the test of time or will do so a couple of years from now.

Gargoyles, The Justice League, Techi Muyo and Digimon (despite being a kids show and having the flaws that come with bing that type of show)

Without DB/DBZ alot of the fictional stories we have today would not exist or be significantly different. Naruto/YuYu Hakusho/ Sonic the Hedgechog/ Bleach/ One Piece/ Street Fighter/ ect. all have elements the creators of said series have said had a lot to do with DB/DBZ inspiring them.
There. I proved that DB/DBZ is worthy of it's fame, with it inspiring several series of fiction, which would not be the same without it.

Well thats a good argument however just because one show inspired a group of other shows creation doesnt mean anything. Mostly all of the shows you listed are the same in one way or another and over time it looks lika a bunch of copycating. And im not saying theres anything wrong with gaining inspiration from somewhere else because i like Heroes and Thats clearly inspired by the X-men in many ways. However If your going to use something as a source of inspiration change it enough so that its your own. And if we take a way the fact that all of those shows were inspired by DBZ it doesnt matter because the stories are long and drawn outa nd focus more so on character development in powers and ablities rather than character development in tems of the actual character.

Well, if that's the way you want to look at it, I think you have a problem with the shonen genre as a whole rather than just DB/DBZ. What shonens do you like, if I may ask?

Edit: I also disagree about the character development part. Naruto, One Piece, and Bleach do that in spades, it's just many fans complain about the fodder/jobber/side characters that get ignored for the prominent ones. DB also had plenty of life lessons and character development, though I do admit DBZ had a lot less. But it was still there.

Well ive never been really good with classifying anime by their genres because there are so many but here are the anime that i like/think is good and you can make whatever assesment you were gonna make based on my list.

Great Teacher Onizuka

Tenchi Muyo series and its spinoffs

The Getbackers

Full Metal Panic series

Death Note

Read or Die/R.O.D the TV series

Blue Gender

Digmon series

Cowboy Bebop

Outlaw Star

This Ugly yet Beautiful World

Gokusen

Dual Parallel Trouble Adventure

Full Metal Alchemist

Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi

Gatekeepers 21 (OVA)

and

Zatch Bell- Despite it having the problems ive listed that i dont like it
was interesting and entertaning, but the artstyle sucked.)

Seems the only shonen you like is Death Note, based on that list. So yeah, I think you just have a problem with the shonen genre as a whole.
Btw-Do you like Rurouni Kenshin? That's a shonen.
