Since Tony Stark has no superpowers, and it's all in the suit, how does it work. How does he turn the jet boots on and off. Or how does he shoot blasts from his hands. I don't see any buttons or anything. So logically, how does it work? He's just walking one minute and suddenly he starts flying without doing anything? That just doesn't make sense to me. I hope they explain this in the film.

they explained it in the comics very well over the years, there are certain movements that trigger things, flexing his hands up and his wrists out quickly probubly causes a trigge to go off and you get Repulsor action.

also I think when he is fight mode tiny touch pads in the gaunlets are coded to trigger certain things

Eventually he just has an interface in the helmet(like in the movie FireFox) where it responds to the electrical impulses in his brain. He also has the onboard computer keyed for voice commands.

Fre fox???... Eastwood, unless I am mistaken..Lockhead black bird right???

hmm..I don't remember it being so advanced....pretty interesting for an 80's movie, again could be mistaken

but yeah, that works too...maybe harder to explain in this day and age, but it could work

Nope, but I'd imagine it's similar to how I described. At least for the Mark III. The Mark I should be all internal buttons/switches ect. with virtually no computer control.

Yeah, I remember when he wanted to fire a missle he had to think in Russian so the computer would work.

ahhh...yeah I remember that part as well, it was under rated movie.

Actually more of an XB-70 Valkyrie.

In the books, the original Mark I grey armor was controlled by buttons, switches, control studs, etc. It was crude yet effective. The next several versions utilized mechanical actuators as well.
By the Mark V suit (mid-70s), the armor was indeed controlled by a cybernetic interface in the helmet. The thought-controlled interface used by Tony Stark and Mitchell Gant is more science than fantasy today. Research with SQUIDs is catching up with yesterday's fiction.

Yeah, this is how the more modern suit works. Iron Man suit is practically a walking computer.

My biggest question has always been, what kind of fuel does he use, and where does he store it??
He is flying around like a jet plane for extended periods and I see no sign of a fuel tank.
Has this ever been explained somewhere?..What am I asking? Of course it has.

He has a superpower...to make things blow up. Doesn't need to be explained. When you start explaining technical design, durability, practical mechanics, and on-site availability more than a few lines in the film you're making it too cerebral. People still don't quite know much about the inner workings of the Hulk, but they know that he likes to smash things and it works for most people. I'm curious myself, but I hope they can explain this visually or as briefly verbally as possible. Long drawling explanations cut into time better spent.

the suit is operated by an elite team of mice using a complex series of gears and pullies :woot:

Chibikiriyama's right; It's a comic book character, man ;)

Last I knew, it was all in the helmet and connected to his thoughts pretty much.

But that's what I liked about Batman Begins. Iron Man and Batman are similar in the fact that they don't have actual superpowers...they rely on technology and their skills to accomplish their goals. Plus, Iron Man is going to be heavily reliant upon technology...it would benefit them to explain a lot of it. But maybe its just me, I'm a tech geek/gadget freak so I'd love for them to explain the inner-workings.

As far as I know, Stark developed a new kind of fuel cell for the armor and that's what powers it. About the size of the power cells for the T-800 from Terminator 3. IM has 2 of them and they are usually on either side of the hip region of the armor.

I'm not saying it would be bad for them to explain how it works like in Batman Begins, just that I don't feel it should force it's way into the storyline or take up too much alloted time.

Oh...I agree. I just don't feel that some people stating that "he's a superhero" is sufficient enough explanation for Iron Man.

I remember reading from somewhere that they were going to dwell on the nuts and bolts of the creation of the suit(s) (even more than in BB), because it was part of who Stark is. But I wouldn't expect every single detail explained.

As far as I know we should have electric cars and jet pacs but the market just doesn't allow for this type of things. So Iron Man could do all that and more since he has his wealth and a whole tech enterprise at his service to build one just for himself.

We don't have Jet packs because they're horribly inefficient and if they malfunction at any height the pilot is doomed.

Believe what you will about electric cars, but again there is an efficiency issue.

Tony Stark can afford to put jet fuel in the iron man suit so that's all the suspension of disbelief I need to know.

in the books there powerd by both electricity and solar energy
