I need some clarification on how Favreau deviated from the comics, this is what I gathered...

1. Stark reveals his identity as Iron Man WAY too soon.
2. SHIELD is helped formed by Tony and not Stark persued by SHIELD
3. SHIELD does not know Stark IS Iron Man but believes Iron Man is Stark's bodyguard.
4. No mention of Stark's fiancee at the time he was initially injured
5. Whiplash was his own "enemy" and not a hired hand of Hammer Industries

Do I have anything wrong or am I missing anything?

Your sig is totally wrong. Wayne Enterprises could never afford Stark Industries.

I just know Iron Man from the cartoons and comics so I'm not up to date on how different each medium is.

In the comics Stane was a business rival, not a partner in the company.
In the comics, Jarvis was a real butler.
In the comics, Justin Hammer was an old British guy

that's all I can think of right now.

wait is this just 616 comics or ultimate comics to becuase Ultimate Tony's Iron Man identity has always been public and I don't remember any comic or any time in the movie there is a mention of Tony having a fiance

Marianne Rodgers and Tony were engaged many moons ago.

Ultimate blue boy Tony can suck it. :cwink:

also the ultimate Iron man mini series is out of continuity again, Ultimate Tony with the life threating injury is back in. didn't you get the memo. :cwink:

but seriously 616, movie and ultimate tony has many similarities:
Tony's iron man identity is public(timing is different)
more or less of an alcoholic
unwilling to sell armor or join S.H.I.E.L.D. at first
has life threatining illness
personality(not just mark millar comics, but brian micheal bendis, Jeph Loeb, warren ellis)
and more

I don't read much ultimate IM. I quit way long ago.

thanks for the replies, as my sig says I'm a Batman guy, but I really liked both Iron Man movies and the cartoons

Anton Vanko is Crimson Dynamo.

Whiplash was, or still is, a chick.

Original Whiplash was Mark Scarlotti. Like most of Iron Man's tech based villains(rather than theme based or business based ones), it's the tech that makes them what they are and so just because a certain user has been dealt with doesn't mean another baddie can't come along and be the next [insert tech based villain/thug here]. So there have been several versions of: Whiplash, Spymaster, Crimson Dynamo, Titanium Man, Iron Monger, etc. with new users.

Also, Rhodey isn't a marine chopper pilot in the films nor do he and Tony first meet during Tony's escape. And I doubt the movie version is going to leave the Air Force to become Tony's personal pilot. Also, Pepper & Happy are the one's who eventually get married in the comics. Doesn't look like that's gonna happen in the films as Tony & Pepper are now in a relationship and I'm not sure they ever got that far in the first 30-40 years of Iron Man comics(not sure about what's happened lately since I stopped reading comics in general long ago).

Oh and Yinsen is no longer a nobel prize winning physicist(who working along with Tony) manages to come up with the first Iron Man suit. In the comics, it took both of their geniuses to make it work. In the films, Tony invents it on his own and Yinsen is just a doctor who saves his life long enough for Tony to come up with it and Yinsen also helps build it. A subtle distinction maybe but an important one, IMO.
