You hear in court cases that get retried how a body was exhumed 5, 6 or even ten years after being buried for retesting.

So, I really need to ask if anybody knows how long it takes for a body to decompose?

...

Something you wanna get off your chest?

It depends on a number of factors:

Location - where was the body while it was decomposing. Bodies have remained fairly intact in cold bogs or extremely hot deserts because there are fewer parasites to feed off them

State of Body - a dismembered body will decompose faster than one that is totally extant. A body that has had it's internal organs removed will decompose less quickly than one that still has them (no acids to eat away from the insides - mummification)

Apparell - the clothing on the body helps to protect - more & tighter clothing equals slower decomposition.

Storage Type - bodies buried without any type of protection will not survive as long as bodies in coffins. Bodies in wooden coffins will decompose faster than bodies in stone coffins.

Depth of burial - deeper = slower (cooler temperatures)

there may be other factors, but those are the ones that come to mind.

It's totally dependent on the environmental conditions where the corpse has been hanging out.

Also, this is just a "jonty wants people to think he's weird" thread, 'cause you know very well you can google this and get answers from actual scientists instead of kids who get goosebumps when they see a Bat Symbol. :o

War Lord probably took revenge on his nephew. :csad:

is it true that when gas moves around in a dead body it makes the body look like it's still alive?

I'm scared of RedMarvel . . . . sounds like somebody did their research

I don't know if it's gas or not, but one of my friends is a mortitian and said that he's had several corpses sit up during burial preperation.

I've seen too many of my pets decompose:csad:

Big gaping hole in it's stomache.

it's odd seeing something you love like that.

It's not a cry for attention, but an honest endeavor into the realm of knowledge.

In other words "It puts the lotion on its skin or else it gets the hose again".

War Lord is so creepy.

There you happy? Close thread.

I have this book called Stiff
Tells you everything that happens or can happen to your body when you die.
Twisted book

Good read, though

Just seeing if anybody here knew, that's all.

War Lord, are you just curious, or do you have one laying around and your wondering how long it's gonna be there?

Jointy, go to a farm and feed the body to dead pigs.

and for crying out loud stop posting about it on the internet! Do you WANT to get caught?
