The Winter Soldier How much Comedy would you want to see in this film... if any?

I know one of the staples of Marvel films is to have comedy, but does some of their movie have too much comedy?

Kevin Feige recently said no, but audiences are not always agreeing.

Trailer for CA Winter Soldier "feels" very serious, and grimm. I know there will be some comedy written into the script and that's great because I love a good laugh with comic book films, but should it be the revolving theme every 15 mins? (i.e. see Thor - The Dark World - those dark trailers could've fooled me that TDW would be more serious than the 1st Thor, but TDW was actually 5x funnier than the original).

I thought the 1st Captain America had just the right amount of funny - few and far between, evenly spaced out. I hope they don't ramp it up for the sequel like they've done with Iron Man and now Thor.

I expect lots of comedy from the Iron Man franchise, now expecting a lot more comedy from the Thor franchise, but I really don't want to expect the same amount of comedy on a Captain America film.

I thought Avengers had way too much comedy. It was impossible to take the situation seriously. But at least it was genuinely funny.

I think the best balance of comedy and seriousness in the Marvel movies was Iron Man.

There'll be comedy, hopefully not too much. This should be a political thriller first and foremost. Even dark movies like Dark Knight, LOTR and the recent Gravity had some comedy in them.

There should be a bit of levity at the right moments. The amount for the audience to smile or have a little laugh should be around 4-5 times max.

And keep it far from the dramatic scenes and above all else have it as good comedy not stupid Selvig naked comedy..

I get the feeling this film will be slightly more serious than im3 and t tdw the comedy will probably be more in line with beggining scene of trailer 1 a bit more dry if that makes any sense.

I'm already bracing myself for the worse so when I watch the movie, I won't have a hard time watching the movie.

I don't like that scene in the trailer where Captain America/Black Widow are talking about weekend plans.

As long as it's not stupid comedy(i.e. unfunny comedy like the let's give ourselves stupid code names scene in XMFC or all the Steve Urkel-ish humor from the Raimi Sidey series). I really haven't had reason to complain about the humor in the MCU films yet so I say stay the course on that one.

I enjoy the humor in the MCU when they pull if off well (which I felt all except TIH and some of the Thor franchise did), and I like the tone of it from what we've seen of this film so far.

The only entry in the MCU that has not handled comedy well is Agents of SHIELD. Thankfully the writers have rectified it with the recent episodes. Comedy, like horror, requires a highly disciplined hand. In less skilled hands, the crystal is shattered with too much applied pressure. Judging from what the trailer has shown, I think it will be fine. I loved the exchange btw. BW and Cap.

I'm seeing TTDW in an hour so I'll see how the humor is there but in the first film I thought probably 90% of that humor worked. I don't recall much humor in TIH, more like light moments but nothing that made me audibly laugh, but I also don't think it was going for that level of humor that Thor, TA or the IM films had. Cap1 also didn't have very much overt humor, more like an over abundance of charm which I enjoyed. The fondue and "I can swim" scenes being the only memorable humor in the film and they were ok but nothing uproarious. I take that back, the best humor scene in Cap1 was with Howard Stark and "write that down".

All told I can't think of any jokes that really flopped and I'm pretty sensitive to that. It's like nails on a chalkboard for me. That's how that code name scene in XMFC and the wrestling scene jokes in SM1 landed for me. Yikes!

The humor in Phase One worked really well. I think that there is too much comedy in Phase Two. IM 3 and TDW had comedy that killed tension and scenes that should have been serious were played for a quick joke. Also, a lot of the humor simply wasn't that funny. Hopefully this movie avoids that.

Really, you're seriously bringing up that scene in FC. The comedy in IM 3 and TDW was ten times worse than anything in FC.

I would say the same amount as the first Cap movie would be fine.

IMO, the only movie to have issues with its comedy was Thor 2, and its not the amount so much as the timing.

Not even close. That was a truly god-awful scene in XMFC and one of the reasons I knew the film was rushed. I can't believe that Vaughn would have missed it otherwise.

Hmm, I don't mind some workplace humor between colleagues(what I mean by that is the first scene in the trailer like the dialogue between Cap and Widow, the kind of stuff some people wanted for Agents of Shield), however there needs to be more genuinely somber and serious moments especially when Cap finds out about how they f**ked up Bucky. I also believe there needs to be a somber tone happening for when Cap meets Peggy again for the first time in years. I believe that moment should be tear-jerking and any Whedon-humor would just kill and ruin the whole movie, especially if Cap finally "gets that date" and gets that "dance he took a rain check on".

Ultimately, Cap's a guy who just misses the simpler times of home in the 1940's(see Avengers deleted scene below) and it NEEDS to be explored in different ways. Funny moments are ok from time to time but there are some moments you need to stop laughing. If they can get more scenes like this as well as the humor which clearly isn't a problem then it might be my favorite Phase II film until Guardians of the Galaxy.

Yeah, I think about the same amount of banter and jokes as TFA had would be fine. But as some posters already stated, the tone of the film, and it's use of humor can't be measured accurately from the trailers. I don't have a problem with the humor in TDW. I actually think it's fine. It made me laugh. I do wish the drama and action were given as much thought in the screenplay and production as the humorous elements. For me, even if the humor works well, it can still undermine the whole shebang if the drama and action are underwhelming. You come away from the film only ruminating about the humor because it's all that is memorable.

The humor being given more thought than the characters and drama are what my problems with IM3 were. The material that was meant to draw a laugh was spot on, and given RDJ and Black's working relationship, delivered with crackerjack timing and brio. Would that I could say about all the other aspects. This is not from a "Mandarin twist" hater. I laughed at that. Thought it was clever. But the other stuff felt so boiler plate and flat.

Honestly, Iron Man 1 is like the only MCU film imho that has gotten the balance between comedy and drama correctly and the comedy in that film was also mainly inspired by the fact of who Tony Stark is as a character.

Honestly, the biggest priority when it comes to the comedy aspects of this film for Marvel is that they need to learn on how to better place their comedy so that it doesn't ruin the mood of the dramatic moments.

Anyways, it isn't comedy for me. It is the type and how it is used. Don't destroy your dramatic moments with it.

Correct , that's why it's the best MCU movie yet . Through , I don't mind a bit of comedy when it's well-used , in the case of this one , Natasha and Fury will probably be the ones joking the most , with Cap serious most of the time
