How to adjust Namor's wing things for film

Namor is an awesome character. He's the ruler of Atlantis, he's the first Marvel character, and he doesn't take s*** from anybody. So let's dispense with the heresy right up front: Those ankle wing things are just plain stupid. They have nothing to do with him being a fish man, and the idea that he's able to fly because of those wee hummingbird limbs is silly.

And let's face it: if Namor appeared in a film, even if they got the character exactly right, those wing thingies would get more talk from moviegoers than Dr. Manhattan's dangling electric blue junk.

So, how might y'all handle this issue in translating Namor to film?

Cap's wings were much less stupid than Namor's and they had no problem getting rid of them. How about just making the fishman not fly?

I would do it two ways
1) Make the wings more fin-like and bigger. They fold into his ankle when not in use.
2)Realize that I am doing a movie about a guy who is the king of an undersea kingdom and breathes underwater. It would be a fantasy film more like Thor and not worry about the fantastical stuff.

They don't need Namor to fly. Show him swimming like rocket and handling a giant Atlantean halberd (instead of a wussy cliche trident), people would soon forget of the ankle wings.

Namor's real power is his abrasive personality. I think he should be shown of as the calculating undersea general than just another flyer.

Well he can still fly, but if that flying requires him to have the ankle wing then I would like that to pass. The focus is on his strategic cunning rather than his super ability.

Perhaps you Jordacar are the one who's clue-less here. I see nothing, nada, zilch wrong with his ankle wings. They are unigue to him. Should we consider dropping the pointy ears because you don't like them?

as a traditionalist and a future film maker...I would have the wings.I never understoond the excuse that some things have to be changed or removed for film. James Cameron can have giant blue cat people with pony tail nerve endings and no one bats an eye...but having ankle wings on Namor is out of the question???

I love the ankle wings! In fact, I want to see them flapping like hummingbirds in the movie just to give him that extra specialiness-ness. =D
