I'm curious if they will have Thor fly as in the modern books, or if they will go back to using Mjolnir as the flight mechanism.

I have a feeling it will be tied to Mjolnir, not nessisarily him throwing the hammer and grabbing the thong, but some how Mjolnir can propel him magically.

It's always been very Marvel to not have "Superman" type flight, and that's been reflected in the movies, i.e. the Human Torch flies by propulsion of the flame, Iron Man flies by the Repulsors, Hulk jumps incredibly far, etc., etc.

Just curious on what you all think...

I'd be content if Mjolnir just glowed while he flew. The mechanism of throwing the hammer and grabbing the thong might be a bit too much for live-action film.

That's kind of how I envisioned it. That Mjolnir would have some magical power to allow him to fly, and it glowing gives him the power to defy gravity.

The "grabbing the thong" thing was Lee's invention, and you're right, I don't see that working on screen very well.

Didn't Kenneth say they tried doing the spin and it just didnt work?

To me, I kinda don't want to see him fly if he can't do that. But in the trailer, when he got a little bit of flight going, I liked where that was going. I don't think he just needs to break out into flight.

im hoping they do have the spin, throw to flight.

Thor flying should not be dissimilar to this...

I'd want to see him fly regardless. It's kind of a major part of his powers. Just chalk it up to riding air currents like Storm, if anything. Being a thunder god's gotta be good for more than shooting lightning, right? ;)

Indeed!

Honestly, the throwing the hammer and then holding on has always bothered me with its logistics.

i could see the spinning even in battle ...like pushing him away from an attack but still on the ground....like a sword fighter spinning his sword while defending himself and this pushing him around and then he launches a counter attack

look at it this way SF. Thor and Mjolnir are connected, it's an instinctive thing for Thor to toss Mjolnir into the air and Fly. Kirby just had Thor spin Mjolnir to gain speed like a plane on a runway.

I CAN see Thor spin once like athletes do in a Hammer Thow and THEN take off.

I kinda want to see the throw but i got a feeling we wont.

I would be cool with this. I would not even mind if he called to the heavens to give him flight and drew lighting down to energize the hammer, then fly off.

I think that is the one element the the film (from what little I have seen) that is missing. The sense of some mysticism.

Oh I get that, but the visual of throwing something and then grabbing onto it right away like that boggles my mind. I've also broken many a remote control trying it.

In a way if you think about it, shooting a web from your wrist and Catching it WHILE Swinging isn't too far off either. :D

That's because you don't have godly reflexes, homes. :thor:

Just have him move Mjolnir with his mind and hold onto it so it drags him through the air. Seems simple to me.

Mary Poppins is how I've been visualizing a typical Thor landing and I can't say it's appealing. I guess if the FX wizards can make the throw 'n grab work then more power to them but I have a hard time visualizing it myself.

But then it annoys me the way Iron Man lands in his movies, always at like 200 mph and wham! Take it easy, Stark! So maybe I'm not the person to consult on the dynamics of superhero flight.

Spider-man grabs hold of it before it disconnects from his wrist.

True, if I did, I wouldn't have needed to get stitches this weekend.

Thor should just bend down and shoot lighting out of his butt to launch him in the air. I could see that working. "By the power of(clenching)....of(face turns red)......hmphhhhh(face even more red).....THOOORRRRRRR!" And blasts into the night sky like a rocket ship shooting off into space.

What...I cant have a say in this!? Let me live my life!

I thought William Wallace could do that?

I'm not saying I disagree with you at all, because I don't. Like you, yeah he does need to showcase off of his God-like powers. But, without the spinning Hammer, his ability to fly may just come off like Superman. I guess, the main thing I would want, is to have a nice visual way to make it look different from youre typical flying scenes. And using the Hammer, was always my favorite.

But yes, if they have to. The riding air currents thing wouldn't be that bad, I suppose.:oldrazz:
