Surtur didn't seem to be a problem for Thor at the start of Ragnorak, and that was on his own planet with help from an army

Tony is a smart guy and if works out about Surtur crown I think Tony COULD win. Tony's armours have also taken tank shells and alien weapons without suffering severe damage, so who knows if Surters flame could even hit him let alone do damage.

Hhhmmmm both characters could win depending on the circumstances really.

Those weak ass Chitauri lasers had Iron Man on the ropes after he blew up that giant space whale.

Yeah but going through the space whale and his crash landing after probably contributed to that.

Surtur could only hit Thor with the flame when Thor was distracted fighting his demons. Iron Man with no distractions would probably be too quick to hit anyway.

Let's not forget that those "weak ass" lasers were seriously hurting Hulk when he was hurt by a load at once. And Thor was sufficiently concerned about them to block them with Mjolnir.

Furthermore, in the one-shot "Item 47", a couple stole a Chitauri gun and were using it to bust open bank vaults.

Yeah Hulk was hurt by lasers from like 20 of those mini sky ships at once, not just by those hand held lasers guns.

Also Thor blocking those lasers has nothing to do with being concered, he's a trained warrior it's probably instinctual at this point. He also dodged gunfire in Avengers 1, but in the very next Avengers film he was shot by guns from the Quinjet and was unharmed.

They were still using the same tech. And there's no reason to think that the hand-held guns were markedly less powerful than the ones on the ships. The best feat of the ship-mounted guns was blowing up cars. Given that the hand-held guns were shown to be powerful enough to blow open bank vault doors, this seems likely.

Furthermore, Tony had just detonated a massive explosive right in his face by blowing up the Leviathan from within. That probably accounts for his slowness to respond to the attacks.

It's also worth remembering how powerful Vulture's tech (which was repurposed Chitauri stuff) was in Homecoming. One of his gadgets cut an entire ferry in half by accident.

He definitely wouldn't have been seriously hurt by the Chitauri guns, but they might well have stung him. Similarly, the fire from the 25mm cannon of the F-35 (massively more powerful than the 7.62mm minigun on the Quinjet) from Avengers would probably hurt quite a bit without putting his life in danger.

I feel Thor taking those would be like someone throwing a bunch of pebbles at you.

You'll move out of the way because it's distracting.

Exactly, they wouldn't pierce his skin but it wouldn't feel pleasant.

It isnt a discussion. His durability is absurd. Stabbing, eye loss, pummelling of 12 punches from Hulk that he took than me gettong punched from you once? His durability is absurd now

I agree that it's all about the circumstances, and Iron Man has a big mobility advantage. With prep I'm sure he could develop a weapon which would injure or incapacitate Surtur - but if they fight in Surtur's cave, with no additional prep or specialized weapons.....Tony would need to run, or he'd get slagged.

However, Tony vs Surtur, on earth in open ground with the Hulkbuster armour or the House Party.....might be a different story.

It's downright jaw dropping like being slammed in the ground like Loki in The Avengers, except Thor was COMPLETELY unharmed and got up instantly with zero scars or bruises.

Shrugging off being dragged in the ground by Surtur's dragon and withstanding Surtur's flame although Mjolnir shielding some of it. Not to mention healing almost instantly from like 10 stabs from Hela's blades, which can one shot most Asgardians and Asgardian Ships.
